Geeta Rani v. Union of India (2026): A Call for Accountability Within Courts
Despite explicit constitutional and statutory mandates, a recent PIL reveals that many High Courts have not yet developed or implemented effective safeguards against sexual harassment. What does it say about accountability and equality in the system when organizations tasked with upholding justice fail to guarantee dignity within their own walls?

Does your right to safety end where your department’s boundary begins?

This snippet examines Dr. Sohail Malik v. Union of India & Anr., a landmark 2025 judgment where the Supreme Court clarifies a critical jurisdictional hurdle: Which Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) has the power to act when the aggrieved woman and the accused belong to different offices?

At its core, the ruling addresses the growing complexity of modern workplaces, ensuring that procedural technicalities do not silence survivors or obstruct their right to a safe environment.

Can a harasser hide behind organizational boundaries, or will the spirit of the POSH Act ensure accountability across departments?

When does faith cross the Constitution?
This snippet examines Chetna Welfare Society (Regd.) v. Union of India, where the Supreme Court is asked to decide whether Female Ge***al Mutilation can survive constitutional scrutiny in the name of religion.

At its core lies a conflict between religious freedom and the bodily integrity, dignity, and equality of minor girls under Articles 14, 15, and 21.

Can tradition justify irreversible harm, or must the Constitution prevail?

When Marriage Overrides POCSO: Article 142 and the Limits of Child Protection
A recent ruling by the Supreme Court used Article 142 to overturn a POCSO conviction following the accused's marriage to the victim. The case blurs the distinction between justice and exception as statutory protection and compassion collide. The judgment invites consideration of whether this outcome is a setback for child protection or a judicious and compassionate exercise of judicial power?

Debating the Age of Consent: Between Protection and Autonomy - In a legal framework that criminalizes all relationships involving individuals under 18, an escalating discourse interrogates whether protection has begun to eclipse autonomy. Is this a step toward understanding what young people want, or is it a challenge to the idea of protection itself?

Can the law be gender neutral?

In this post, Bhumika Dhurve and Vaishnavi Tomar, from NLIU Bhopal's Gender Justice Cell, delve into recent judicial pronouncement on whether a woman can be prosecuted for penetrative sexual assault under the POCSO Act, 2012.

In a legal system where sexual offence laws are largely oriented around male perpetrators, this case urges us to rethink how justice perceives gender.

Is this a step toward equal protection for all, or a reminder to rethink how our laws define justice?
