Sharma, Department of Biological Sciences, 𝗜𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗥 𝗕𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗮𝗹 has been published in the journal Molecular Horticulture.

The study presents the high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly of Tamarindus indica (known as Imli in Hindi), offering valuable insights into the evolution of triterpenes and tartaric acid biosynthetic pathways—important compounds associated with the medicinal, nutritional, and nutraceutical properties of tamarind.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵:
• First chromosome-level genome assembly of Imli (April 2025)
• Discovery of an independent whole-genome duplication event
• Provides first insights into the key genes involved in tartaric acid biosynthetic pathway
• Valuable genomic resources for future pharmaceutical and nutraceutical innovations

This research advances our understanding of plant genome evolution in the legume family and provides leads for future studies in biotechnology, functional genomics, crop improvement, and for the development of plant-based therapeutic products.

Despite the scorching heat of May, the IISER Bhopal campus in full bloom🌼and adorned in nature's own yellow hue. The iconic Cassia fistula - popularly known as 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗮𝘀 💛 took over the campus skyline, ornamenting our buildings and pristine sports arenas in a vibrant, sun-kissed frame 🌇. Walking down the flowered interlocking brick pathways feels less like a daily commute and more like stepping into a living canvas. ✨

Look closely through the delicate, five-petaled clusters, and you'll catch the sunlight filtering through, casting intricate shadows on the quiet afternoon streets. 🌼🍃 It’s in these quiet, scenic moments that the true spirit of our campus shines through. The vibrant green hedges and stark, towering floodlights stand ready for the day's transition, bridging the gap between midday serenity and evening vitality.

For our students, faculty, and researchers, these views are a reminder that beauty grows even in intense summers. Drop a 💛 if you’ve taken a pause to admire the golden canopy this week!

As the evening sun dips low over the IISER Bhopal campus, everything turns into a sea of gold 🧡✨. The bright, fiery hues of deep orange and red across the horizon 🌇 show the true, dramatic beauty of a hot summer evening here in Bhauri. From the above, one can see the long road stretching toward the horizon, passing right by the blue basketball courts 🏀 and quiet hostels 🏬. Down on the ground, the sunlight peeks through the palm trees while their dark silhouettes 🍂 perfectly frame the sky.

As the intense heat of the day slowly fades, a calm energy takes over the campus. It is a special moment where the busy life 🧑💻 of labs, libraries, and classrooms finally slows down. Students walking back from lectures and researchers stepping away from their experiments stop for a moment just to look up and enjoy the view. 💛

These quiet scenes at the end of the day remind us that our campus is not just a place for hard work and intense science, but also a home where nature 🍃 and learning live together. 🤍 As the sun disappears and another productive day comes to a close, this golden glow gives our community a peaceful space to relax, think, and prepare for the day to come. 🌅✨
