Amrita School of Agricultural Sciences, Coimbatore, in collaboration with ICSSR, hosted a two-day international conference on April 29–30, 2025. The event focused on improving rice farming under drought, salinity, and heat stress using farmer participation and technology.
Over 200 farmers joined experts from IRRI, ICRISAT, ICAR, ISRO, TNAU, KAU, and more. Discussions covered stress-tolerant rice varieties, remote sensing, post-harvest improvements, and crop diversification.
Swami Tapsayamrithananda Puri shared Amma’s message on compassion-led research. The conference called for farmer-centric innovations, stronger value chains, and sustainable agriculture policies.

Senior Professors from Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kerala visited the Amrita School of Agriculture on November 16, 2023, to engage in discussions regarding potential collaborative ventures. The visiting team included Prof. Santhosh Kumar M.B, Emeritus Professor Kannan, Former Dean KPS Nair, and Prof. Pramod Kumar.
During the meeting, the CUSAT team, alongside researchers from Amrita School of Agriculture, explored various opportunities for joint initiatives. Prof. Santhosh Kumar provided insights into the Banana Propping techniques developed by CUSAT and outlined plans for upcoming pilot research studies in Coimbatore area.
The collaborative efforts aim to enhance research and development in agriculture, leveraging the expertise and resources from both institutions. The discussions held during the visit set the foundation for potential future collaborations and mutually beneficial projects.

In an enlightening lecture hosted at the Amrita School of Agriculture, Dr. KK Singh, a luminary in the field of agro-meteorology and former head of the Agromet Division at the India Meteorological Department, delved into the captivating narrative of past, present, and future trends in Agro-Advisory services.
As the former Coordinator of the Expert Group on Agrometeorology for the World Meteorological Organization, Dr. Singh provided a historical perspective on the evolution of agro-advisory services.
Highlighting the pivotal role of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dr. Singh underscored its significance as the national-level nodal office for issuing agro-advisory services. The IMD's commitment to agricultural sustainability was exemplified through the sanctioning of an agrometeorology field unit to Amrita School of Agriculture in 2022. Through the advisory from school, farmers received timely guidance, including pest and disease forewarnings, demonstrating the practical application of meteorological insights in agriculture.

As the audience eagerly listened, Dr. Singh charted a course for the future. His visionary insights envisaged a landscape where agro-advisory services evolve in tandem with technological advancements and climate resilience. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between meteorological agencies, agricultural universities, and research institutes to harness the power of collective knowledge.
Dr. KK Singh’s engagement with the students and faculty was not confined to the lecture hall. An interactive session saw him offering valuable suggestions to enhance agro-advisory services, ensuring they align seamlessly with the dynamic needs of farmers. Recognizing academic excellence, Dr. Singh distributed prizes to outstanding students, fostering a culture of recognition and encouragement.

The Civil 20 India 2023 Summit comes to a close today in Jaipur as one of India’s G20 Engagement Groups.

Having begun its work in October last year, the herculean task resulted in connecting more than 200,000 volunteers who are a part of networks worldwide. They serve people to find solutions for society’s most pressing issues. This includes environmental destruction and endemic poverty and the results: hunger, lack of health care, and social injustice.

Amma as Chair declared: You are the light! The handover of the C20 Policy Pack and the C20 Communique contains policy recommendations that can bring about positive change for all levels of society based upon compassion, love, and mutual respect.

The Summit of Civil20 (C20), an official Engagement Group of G20, is going to be held in Jaipur over three days from July 29-31, 2023. The event will present the policy recommendations developed by its 16 Working Groups after extensive discussions with civil-society organisations and policymakers worldwide over the past over eight months.

Prominent dignitaries will attend the inauguration of the C20 Summit, including Shri Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Defence, Govt. of India; Smt Shakuntala Rawat, Cbabinet Minister of Rajasthan; Amma, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Chair, C20; and H.E. Mr. Federico Salas Lotfe, Ambassador, Embassy of Mexico; Shri Abhay Thakur, G20 Sous-Sherpa; Core Committee Members Sri M, Sri M Satsang Foundation; RMP (Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini) Shri Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations; and Dr. Nivedita Bhide of the Vivekananda Kendra; and C20 Sherpa Shri Vijaya K. Nambiar.

The 2023 Summit for Civil 20 starts in Jaipur tomorrow (July 29, 2023). It is the largest Engagement Group of India’s G20 Presidency. The mandate is to represent the concerns of volunteer organisations that reach out to their communities to provide basic needs, social justice, and economic development.

The three-day summit will finalise the policy decisions from thousands of events organised across the G20 nations by the 16 working groups of the Civil 20. There has been an enormous participation of various CSOs and NGOs worldwide.

Our beloved Amma, the Honourable Chair of C20, along with other prominent personalities will be gracing the entire event.
