23/06/16, 4:32:52 PM: : *SAP India CEO Ranjan Das Dies After Gym Workout*

Ranjan Das, CEO and MD of SAP-Indian subcontinent died after a massive cardiac arrest in Mumbai recently.
One of the youngest CEOs, he was only 42.

What killed Ranjan Das?

He was very active in sports, was a fitness freak and a marathon runner.

After his workout, he collapsed with a massive heart attack and died. He is survived by his wife and two very young kids.

It was certainly a wake-up call for corporate India. However, it was even more disastrous for runners.

The question arises as to why an exceptionally active, athletic person succumbed to a heart attack at 42 years of age.

What is the real reason?

Everyone missed out a small line in the reports that Ranjan used to manage with 4-5 hours of sleep.

In an earlier interview of Ranjan on NDTV in the program ‘Boss' day out’, Ranjan Das himself admitted that he sleeps less and would love to get more sleep.

Eighth Dr B R Ambedkar Memorial Lecture
‘Rethinking Civilization as History’
The concept of civilization came to be used in European thought in the last four centuries. It was not a static concept. Its initial form grew out of the historical changes that were taking place in Europe at that time. In the nineteenth century it was used to
support colonial views particularly in the distinction between ‘civilised’ and ‘primitive’. In this the notion of exclusion was central. The definition of civilization itself required specifically unique characteristics. In the twentieth century historians began to use it in a different way when it was associated with social evolution. Anthropologists and archaeologists had given it a new meaning, namely, it was a stage in human history. This was a more neutral definition than the earlier one. Needless to say the earlier concepts as historical explanations came to be questioned with this change of meaning.
Civilizations had been defined as requiring evidence of high cultural achievements, articulated in a particular language, given expression to in a particular religion, and located in a demarcated territory. The concept is discussed in various ways. Some would
underline what is referred to as a characteristic ‘high culture’ of each. But others are asking whether these precise definitions still hold given the attention that is being directed to the inter-connectedness of cultures. The emphasis now is on the inter-action of evolution and exchange among and between cultures. This leads to a different way of perceiving history. So, do we have to ask the question whether we have to create typologies for the concept of civilization that are different from the ones we have used so far? Do we have to modify the concept of civilization or perhaps even redefine it?
