Government Dental College, Dibrugarh successfully conducted a Workshop on Distraction Osteogenesis on 31st October & 1st November 2025, organized by the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery under the guidance of Dr. Dipanjal Saikia, Professor & Head, OMFS, and with the key organizational efforts of Dr. Pradeep Sharma, Reader, Dept of OMFS and Dr. Kriti Hazarika, Senior Lecturer, Dept of OMFS. Also selfless effort of other organising committee members namely Dr Nirmalendu Saha, Lecturer, Dr Sushmit Priyam Bora, Registrar, Dr Jyotish Saikia Registrar.
The event began with a heartfelt tribute to the late Shri Zubeen Garg, honouring his invaluable contribution to the art and culture of Assam. Following this, an insightful academic session was held, including a live surgery demonstration at Assam Medical College & Hospital, highlighting the clinical significance of Distraction Osteogenesis in reconstructive maxillofacial surgery — a technique pivotal in correcting craniofacial deformities and enhancing functional rehabilitation.
The workshop was graced by esteemed guests — Mr. Prabhakar Tripathi, DIG CRPF, Dr. Harsh Jain, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, and Dr. Subhash Chandra Debnath, Professor & Head, Dept of OMFS, Regional Dental College, whose presence added immense value to the occasion.
Dr. Chandana Kalita, Principal(i/c), GDCD, commended the Department of OMFS for their continuous efforts in advancing surgical education and fostering excellence in dental healthcare.
The event concluded with a vibrant cultural performance by students, celebrating the rich and diverse traditions of Assam, marking a perfect blend of science, respect, and culture.
