Itanagar, 4th August 2025 – The Department of Women & Child Development (WCD), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, received the final report of a collaborative research study titled “Identification of Women-Specific Impacts Due to Climate Change”, conducted by the Department of Geography, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), Rono Hills.
This research initiative stemmed from a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on 4th August 2023 between the WCD Department and RGU under the broader framework of the Pakke Tiger Reserve 2047 Declaration on Climate-Resilient and Responsive Arunachal Pradesh. The study was spearheaded by Professor Tage Rupa Sora, and aligns with two key strategic areas under the “Panch Dhara” (Five Broad Themes) approach:
• Strategy V (73): Promoting equitable gender roles and responsibilities in climate-resilient and sustainable resource management at the community level.
• Strategy V (74): Protecting the most vulnerable—especially women and children—from the adverse impacts of climate change, while ensuring distributive justice.
The final report was officially submitted to Smti Mimum Tayeng, IAS, Commissioner, WCD, in the presence of Smti T.W. Thongon, Director, WCD; Smti Chadan Tangjang, Deputy Director; Shri D.K. Thungon and Shri Gyati Loder, CDPOs; Smti Nani Yakang, SHEW; and Miss Tadu Sampi, Research Fellow.
Commissioner Tayeng commended the RGU team for timely completion of the study and noted that the findings present a significant roadmap toward a sustainable and inclusive future. She further highlighted the importance of collaborative, inter-departmental research involving sectors such as Agriculture and Health to integrate gender perspectives into climate action policies.
“The Department is committed to the holistic development of women and children. Through such research studies, we aim not only to highlight the vulnerabilities of women to climate change but also to empower them as active agents of change,” the Commissioner said.
This initiative underscores the state’s commitment to gender-sensitive climate resilience and reinforces the importance of academic partnerships in shaping informed, inclusive, and future-ready policy frameworks.
