Post Lunch Session

i. Post lunch, the informal session started. The major objective of the session was to discuss the formation of the official group of the Alumni Association of the Department of English, RGU. After a thorough discussion, the members present decided that the Alumni Association must be centred and function from RGU itself. The reason was that it was in the Department that the registration form would be collected, and data would be recorded. Moreover, many alumni are located in different parts of the state as well as outside of the state, sometimes facing network issues, as well as distance being a problem. This would not facilitate smooth liaising between members. Therefore, it was decided that the Department at RGU must be the centre from where the liaising of the Alumni and its activities will be conducted.
ii. The members present, through a voice vote, elected Dr. Doyir Ete as President, Dr. Bompi Riba as Vice President, and Dr. Wanglit Mongchan as General Secretary. The members suggested that the elected office bearers select more members for different posts like Treasurer, Literary Secretary, and Social Media handler for the Alumni. Therefore, it was unanimously decided to appoint Dr. Saurav Mitra as the Literary Secretary for the Alumni Organisation and Mr. Akash Thakur as the Social Media handler for the Alumni. It was also decided to appoint an Alumni Ph.D. Scholar from the Department as the Treasurer.
iii. The other decisions taken by the members were that there must be district-wise or zone-wise Alumni chapters that will liaise with the Alumni Association and office bearers at the Department of English, RGU.
iv. It was also decided that an annual fee would be collected by the Alumni members as a membership/registration fee. The breakdown of fees was decided as follows: Employed Alumni - 1000 INR, Research Scholars (JRF) - 500 INR, Research Scholars (NET) - 300 INR, Students, and other Alumni - 100 INR.
v. It was also suggested that an Alumni fee of 100 INR will be collected from PG students of the Department at the time of new admission.
vi. It was also decided that there must be an award from the Alumni for the topper of current PG students. The prize will include a memento, a cash prize, and a certificate.
vii. It was also decided that the Alumni Association will have an annual event like a lecture/literary/creative writing/workshops, etc., which can be organized at any District Chapters or at RGU.
vii. Dr. Taw Azu, a distinguished Alumni, took over the responsibility of conducting the Alumni event of the year 2026. Finally, it was decided that the Alumni Association of the Department of English would be registered under the Rajiv Gandhi University Alumni Association (RGUAA).
The program ended with a Vote of thanks from the Department of English, RGU.
