The largest toy museum in the world is going to be built in Gujarat. It is being constructed under the Bal Bhavan Project of Children's University of Gujarat. More than 11 lakh toys from ancient times to modern times will be displayed here.

As part of the Systems Design course Prapti.V, Regina.K and Urvi.S of M.Des 2016 batch had done a live project with Junagadh Museum in 2017 to improve the engagement of visitors especially children by creating playful experiences. The project guided by Dr. Gayatri Menon and Austin Davis. It was completed and ideations and prototypes which were tested with users. Thanks to Mr. Kiran Varia who was the curator of that Museum to collaborate with Toy and Game Design department.

Hoping to contribute and collaborate with the Children's University in this project if such an opportunity gets created.

The Toy and Game Design department at NID has been working with craft and folk toys since the time the department started. Professor Sudarshan Khanna saw the potential of PLAY in the development of children while he extensively documented the evergreen Indian Folk/Mela toys. Its only furing our introductory courses here at Toy and Game Design do we realize the simplicity of its design and how its the best version of itself. Re-designing is a common assignment done by students as it helps them understand the attributes of play, material, joineries, movements and the context of the product.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed his efforts in reviving the ancient wood lacquer craft toys during his 'Mann ki Baat' address. About three decades ago, Raju — also an agriculturist — revived the dying art of making wooden toys among the craft community of Etikopakka.

In the second picture you can see a toy that was designed by an alumni of Toy and Game Design Department as part of Design Project 2 and worked with the Idar, Gujrat craftsmen to revive their toy craft community.
He seamlessly fused technology with craft taking inspiration from Garba which is a cultural celebratory dance of Gujarat.

Excerpt from the news article : For toy design and manufacturing to improve in India, R&D is key. Institutions like the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad — which has a master’s programme in Toy & Game Design, the only one of its kind in India — are stepping up to meet the challenge. “Over the last year, we’ve been working with members of the All India Toy Manufacturers’ Association, on how we can contribute to their R&D for newer, innovative toys. Some are also investing in classroom projects,” says Shekhar Bhattacharjee (pictured above), the NID discipline lead. “Last year, Arihant Play sponsored a project, to create an inclusive playground for children with special needs [Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome, ADHD]. The first one has been installed at the BM Institute of Mental Health, Ahmedabad, and was inaugurated two days ago.”
