Sikkim Government College, Burtuk organized a “Shradhanjali Arpan” Programme to pay tribute to the lives lost in the devastating flash flood in Nepal on 26 August 2026. The programme was held as a solemn expression of sympathy and solidarity with the affected families and people of Nepal. The programme was hosted by Mr. Narayan Sharma, Assistant Professor, who welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of standing together during times of natural disasters. A short condolence speech was delivered by the Principal, Prof. Dr. Sunita Kharel, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and conveyed heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families. The tribute continued with a candle-lighting ceremony, in which the teaching faculty, administrative staff, and students participated. This was followed by two minutes of silence and prayer in remembrance of the victims.
Students also presented and recited poems on the theme of the Nepal Disaster, expressing grief, compassion, and hope for those affected by the tragedy.

The Health Club of Sikkim Government College, Burtuk organised TB AWARENESS AND SCREENING PROGRAMME
Under TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in collaboration with District Tuberculosis Centre, Gangtok, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim on Date: 03.09.2026. The programme was undertaken with the broader rationale of increasing better responsiveness and accountability concerning tuberculosis among the students and staff of Sikkim Government College, Burtuk. It required to help participants comprehend the nature of tuberculosis and recognise symptoms that may necessitate appropriate medical attention. An important center of attention of the programme was to promote individuals not to disregard constant or concerning symptoms and to seek out professional medical advice at an early stage. The screening component was proposed to maintain the identification of individuals who might need additional evaluation and to assist suitable recommendation through the District Tuberculosis Centre. 31.08.2026: The Dean’s Office of Sikkim Government College, Burtuk organised an Induction Programme for the First Semester students admitted under NEP 2020 on 31st August 2026. The programme aimed to warmly welcome the newly admitted students and familiarise them with the academic, administrative and co-curricular environment of the college.
The programme commenced with an address by the Principal, followed by briefings from the Deans and Convenors of various committees, including the Examination, Admission, Discipline, NCC, NSS, Culture and Sports Committees. The respective Convenors briefed the students about the roles, responsibilities, procedures and facilities associated with their committees. The induction programme was successfully conducted and provided the newly admitted students with a clear understanding of the academic, administrative, disciplinary and co-curricular framework of the college. It encouraged them to begin their college journey with confidence, responsibility and enthusiasm.

नेपाली भाषा भारतको समृद्ध बहुभाषिक तथा बहुसांस्कृतिक परम्पराको महत्वपूर्ण अङ्ग हो। भारतको संविधानको आठौँ अनुसूचीमा नेपाली भाषाले २० अगस्त १९९२ मा संवैधानिक मान्यता प्राप्त गरेको ऐतिहासिक दिनको स्मरणमा प्रत्येक वर्ष नेपाली भाषा मान्यता दिवस मनाइँदै आएको छ। यस ऐतिहासिक उपलब्धिले नेपाली भाषाको संवैधानिक, भाषिक तथा सांस्कृतिक पहिचानलाई अझ सुदृढ बनाएको छ।

The students of the 3rd Semester, Department of English, Sikkim Government College, Burtuk, attended the
Sikkim Through the Lens” Photography and Videography Programme on 19th August 2026 at SPRC Hall,
Deorali. The students were escorted by Dolma Tempo Ethenpa and participated actively in the programme,
which featured workshops, expert interactions, and a quiz session focused on photography, visual
storytelling, and creative media.
The programme provided the students with an enriching opportunity to develop their understanding of
photography and visual creativity. During the quiz round, one student from the Department of English
successfully answered a question and won a gift hamper sponsored by Nikon. The participation proved to be
an engaging and memorable experience for the students.

On August 21, 2026, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit in collaboration with the Eco Club of Sikkim Government College, Burtuk, conducted a specialized Cleanliness Drive. The core objective of the initiative was to clear construction debris, scattered single-use plastics, and roadside litter along the newly constructed flyover bridge corridor and adjoining pedestrian footpaths, enhancing overall civic hygiene and commuter safety.
2. Event Ex*****on & Timeline
• 12:30 PM – Orientation & Division of Work: The drive commenced with an orientation briefing. The 100 student volunteers were organized into coordinated squads equipped with safety gloves, masks, brooms, and segregation collection bags.
• 12:45 PM – 2:00 PM – Intensive Cleanup Drive: Volunteers thoroughly swept and cleared both flanks of the flyover bridge, collecting plastic bottles, packaging remnants, and loose gravel from the walkways and curbing.
• 2:00 PM – 2:15 PM – Segregation & Waste Management: The gathered waste was segregated into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories to facilitate sustainable disposal.
• 2:15 PM – 2:30 PM – Concluding Review & Dispersal: Program officers commended the active participation of the students, highlighted the importance of sustaining civic cleanliness, and officially closed the event.
The joint drive by the NSS Unit and the Eco Club successfully achieved its goals, showcasing effective community engagement and collective civic action. The initiative concluded with positive feedback from the local public and commuters.
