Gossaigaon College is the premier institution of higher education in the Gossaigaon Civil Sub-Divisi with the financial assistance received from the UGC.

The Gossaigaon College is the only degree College imparting higher education to all the students of entire Gossaigaon civil sub-divission since its establishment in 1971. The primary aim of the College is to provide higher education to the deprived and economically poor section of the society and to empower them to get gainful employment in various sectors and develop as useful citizens. The Colle

ge is situated in a 9.73 hectares of campus in a rural set up with sufficient infrastructure to run the present courses. The beautiful natural Sal (Shorea robusta) trees standing gloriously by the side of the College provides a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for teaching & learning process. With its humble beginning in 1971, the College is marching ahead against all odds and has reached the present position. Today, it has been able to offer major courses in all Arts and Science subjects having affiliation to Gauhati University. The hard work and determination of the College authority could bring the institution under deficit grant-in-aid system in 1978 and also able to obtain 2(f) recognitions from the UGC in 1990. Subsequently, the College has been brought under provincialized system by the Government of Assam in 2005. In order to achieve academic excellency, the College authority is endeavouring to tap the co-operative moods of all teaching and non-teaching staff of the College. Over the years, the College has achieved success in improving the academic atmosphere in right perspective. Besides providing academic teachings to the students, the College also organizes remedial classes as well as coaching classes for entry into various services like civil service, Assam Public Service Commission, Banking, Railways, TET etc. Apart from this students are also provided opportunities to participate in co-curricular activities thorough the NCC and NSS unit of the College. The NCC unit of the College is tremendously vibrant in all its activities including participation in Republic Day Camp, National Integration Camp, Mountaineering Camp held every year in various places and also achieved success with many awards. So far, many cadets hailing from poor families have got placements in various defence services. As a whole, the College has been able to exploit the good talents of the students in co-curricular activities which is reflected in the successes achieved in various tournaments like the Gauhati University Inter College football Tournament on several occasions.
