The 44th Manik Chandra Barooah Memorial National Debate Competition was enriched by the presence and expertise of an esteemed panel of professionals.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Shri Sachin Gogoi, Journalist and Editorial Lead, BBC Delhi Bureau, for presiding over the House as the Speaker, and to our distinguished judges - Advocate of the Gauhati High Court Dr Neelotpal Deka; Dr Kuldeep Baishya, Assistant Professor, IIT Guwahati; and Dr Jyotisha Saikia, Head, Corporate Communications, Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport - for their valuable time, insights and meticulous evaluation.

Their presence added immense value to the competition and inspired our young debaters to engage in a meaningful exchange of ideas.

Glimpses from the inaugural programme of the 44th Manik Chandra Barooah Memorial National Debate Competition

The occasion was graced by Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Honā€™ble Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Government of India, as the Chief Guest and Shri Utpal Sharma, President of the All Assam Studentsā€™ Union (AASU), as the Guest of Honour.

The debate was a celebration of perspectives, critical thinking and intellectual exchange, bringing together 58 participants representing 30 institutions from across India and neighbouring Bhutan.

The competition reflected the enduring spirit of debate and dialogue, providing a vibrant platform for young minds to engage, deliberate and articulate diverse perspectives.

Cotton University celebrated Sri Krishna Janmashtami for the first time, bringing together spirituality, cultural heritage and the University community at the Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rabha Auditorium.

The celebration was graced by the Honā€™ble MLA of Guwahati Central Constituency Shri Vijay Kumar Gupta, Honā€™ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka, Registrar (i/c) Dr Hiren Deka and National General Secretary, Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana Shri Hemanta Dhing Majumdar.

A major highlight was the captivating Nagara Naam presented by the Bagheswari Nagara Naam Party, Nalbari, led by renowned Utpal Sagar, creating a deeply devotional and spiritual atmosphere.

Cotton University NSS Cell observed National Sports Day 2026 with a three-day campaign, promoting fitness, sportsmanship and an active lifestyle among students and the community.

The celebrations from 28-30 August, 2026 brought together the spirit of ā€œTribute, Play & Moveā€, inspiring young minds to embrace sports and make fitness a part of everyday life.

As part of the campaign, the NSS Cell also organised outreach activities at T.C. Govt. Girlsā€™ H.S. & M.P. School on 28 August, along with sports and fitness activities under the campaign.

The campaign was flagged off by Honā€™ble Vice Chancellor Prof Ramesh Ch. Deka in the presence of DSW Dr Gunendra Chandra Das, members of the staff and students of the varsity.
