NAAC Workshop Focusing on Quality Assurance in Online Education Concludes at BRAOU
Hyderabad, May 28 : The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bengaluru, in collaboration with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), successfully concluded a two-day “Consultative Workshop for Directors of Online Education and CIQA/IQAC” at the BRAOU campus on May 27 and 28, 2026.
The workshop brought together experts, administrators, and academic leaders from across the country to deliberate on strengthening quality assurance mechanisms in online education. Discussions focused on curriculum design and development, digital content creation, teaching-learning processes, student support services, assessment methods, faculty development, technology platforms, continuous improvement strategies, leadership, and the evolving regulatory landscape in higher education.
Dr. Britta Zawada, former Director, Council on Higher Education (CHE), South Africa emphasized aligning learning design with assessment practices and strengthening academic integrity among faculty and students from the beginning. The discussions highlighted the need for diverse assessment methods beyond MCQs, including peer assessment, industry participation, and skill-based evaluation, along with timely and actionable feedback mechanisms.
Delegates also reviewed the primary components and parameters for institutional assessment and accreditation in online education systems. Around 56 delegates from different parts of the country participated in the workshop and shared best practices, challenges, and innovative approaches for improving the quality of higher education.

Hyderabad, May 27,2026: National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bengaluru in collaborations Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), inaugurated Two-day workshop on “Consultative Workshop for Directors of Online Education and CIQA/IQAC" on Wednesday at the campus. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, presided the inaugural session, reiterating the University’s commitment to the vision of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar for inclusive and accessible education. He emphasized several recent digital initiatives undertaken by BRAOU, including the rapid development of a Learning Management System (LMS), establishment of a web-based television station, and launch of web radio services (HiBRO), promotion of e-books through open platforms, digitization of library services, and the development of micro-credential courses. These initiatives, he noted, are part of the University’s larger goal of emerging as a digital hub for ODL institutions. Prof. Chakrapani also underscored the importance of collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) and CEMCA for strengthening capacity building, digital learning practices, and institutional resilience.
Prof. V.S. Prasad, Former Director, NAAC & Former VC, BRAOU attended as chief guest for the inaugural session of the workshop, emphasized that the primary responsibility for ensuring and sustaining quality in higher education must rest with the institutions themselves. Regulatory and accreditation bodies should therefore adopt a supportive and facilitative approach by providing flexible, context-sensitive, and non-prescriptive quality frameworks that encourage innovation and institutional growth rather than mere compliance. Prof Prasad highlighted the need to design Quality Assurance (QA) systems that promote continuous self-improvement, adaptability, reflective practices, and institutional autonomy. Prof Prasad stated that the importance of preserving integrity, credibility, and trust in accreditation and assessment processes by institutionalizing transparent, ethical, and participatory practices. This includes clarity in procedures, evidence-based evaluation, stakeholder engagement, openness in decision-making, and adherence to academic and professional standards throughout the quality assurance and accreditation cycle.
The Distinguished guests Prof. Ganesan Kannabiran, Director, NAAC, Bengaluru said that NAAC beyond conventional accreditation processes, with increasing emphasis on research, innovation, and institutional capacity building to strengthen quality assurance practices in higher education. Prof. Kannabiran stated that the primary objective of the workshop is to enhance the capacity of participating institutions in designing, implementing, and sustaining robust quality assurance frameworks for online education. The deliberations and expert interactions during the workshop are also expected to contribute towards the development of a comprehensive handbook and online programmes in 8 month project where participant Universities will be part of Project.
Dr. B. Shadrach, Director, CEMCA, New Delhi said the perspective of the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), a regional centre of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL). He highlighted the core focus areas of COL and CEMCA, which include policy advocacy, institutional capacity strengthening, promotion of learner engagement, and the advancement of technology-enabled education systems. He stressed that institutions must strive to maintain an effective balance between quantity, quality, and relevance in the emerging era of digital transformation and AI-driven education systems.

Hyderabad, May 18, 2026: Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University concluded "Education Week" on “Innovation Inclusion, Institutional Excellence and Outreach” from May 11 to 17, 2026 at the university campus. As a part of this the university organized Valedictory program on Monday at its Campus.
Prof.Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU attended as the chief guest for the Valedictory function. Prof Chakrapani opined that the Open University is taking a step forward to evolve into a comprehensive digital educational institution by formulating and systematically implementing its institutional development plan. He stated that the full-scale implementation of the "Institutional Development Plan" (IDP) formulated after a comprehensive study would not only contribute to Ambedkar Open University achieving the highest level of recognition but also lay a strong foundation for its future. Furthermore, he noted that the university is currently in its fifth decade of operations, and it would be fitting to designate this period as the "Decade of Transformation." As part of this initiative, he revealed that employment-oriented courses have been introduced alongside traditional academic programs. Explaining the operational framework, he emphasized that the university places the utmost priority on delivering quality services across every department, with the learner serving as the central focal point in all these activities. He outlined that the university's specific operational structure comprises five key verticals: Academic Affairs, Student Services, Administrative Services, Technical Services, and Skill Development. Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani revealed that the primary objective set forth is to move forward by effectively coordinating all these various components. Prof. Chakrapani, and University Directors and Deans, released the "Institutional Development Plan (2026–2036)" as part of the "Education Week" celebrations. Similarly, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University successfully submitted an online application for recognition by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).

Hyderabad, May 16, 2026: Dr. B R Ambedkar Open University celebrating "Education Week" on “Innovation Inclusion, Institutional Excellence and Outreach” from May 11 to 17, 2026 at the university campus. As a part of this, the University organized “Book Talk” on Saturday. Prof. V.S. Prasad, Former Director NAAC and Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU attended as the chief guest for the program. Prof. Prasad stated that knowledge can be acquired through continuous reading of books, and that this serves as a means to study the history of events that have occurred across the globe. Hementioned that he had recently read the book “Do You Know Your Hinduism” authored by Rajmohan Gandhi and proceeded to elaborate on the themes discussed therein. He explained that the author had addressed several pivotal issues in the book, writing in a manner highly relevant to the current socio-political climate. Noting that India is a secular nation home to people of diverse religious faiths, he stated that while there is nothing wrong with individuals respecting their own religion, one must conduct oneself in a manner that does not offend the opinions or sentiments of people belonging to other faiths. Further, Prof. Prasad revealed that the author has expounded at length in the book on the essence of true Hinduism which, he noted, advocates for respecting others and treating people of other religions, along with their respective customs and beliefs with absolute equality.
The Distinguished guest Prof. G. Haragopal, former professor of Hyderabad Central University, explained the points mentioned in
the book “WE THE PEOPLE OF INDIA: DECODING A NATION’S SYMBOLS” written by renowned author T. M. Krishna, stating that he had recently read it. He revealed that the book discusses in detail how people belonging to various religious communities living in the country hold diverse opinions regarding topics such as the National Flag, the Ashoka Chakra, the National Anthem, the Preamble to the Constitution, and Vande Mataram. Prof. Haragopal suggested that students of the current generation should cultivate the habit of reading if they wish to understand the developments unfolding in the country and gain knowledge of its history. He further remarked that it appeared the author had conducted extensive research prior to writing this book.

Prof.Chakrapani explained that students should regularly visit libraries as part of their continuous academic pursuits, noting that this would prove beneficial for both research and the acquisition of knowledge. Ram Reddy, Distance Education Doyen and Founder, Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU and IGNOU, as a part “Leadership Connect” on Saturday. While speaking on the occasion.
Prof. Chakrapani stated that the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University has served as a pioneer, not only by expanding the system of distance education nationwide but also by paving the way for the establishment of numerous other open universities. He expressed great pride in the installation of the statue of Prof. Ram Reddy, a figure who holds distinguished recognition within the country's higher education sector. Furthermore, he inaugurated the newly established Prof. R.V.R. Chandrasekhara Rao Synergy Hall located within the CSTD building.
Prof. G. Haragopal, former professor at the University of Hyderabad was the guest of Honour for the program. Prof. Haragopal said Prof.G.Ram Reddy was instrumental in the expansion of distance education and the establishment of numerous higher education institutions. He remarked that, in recognition of his services, Prof. Ram Reddy should have received a Padma Award long ago, and he appealed to both the Central and State governments to honor him with a Padma Award, even at this belated stage.
Prof. V.S. Prasad, Former Director NAAC and Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU, highlighted the challenges faced during the initial stages of the university's establishment. Noting that the dreams Prof. Ram Reddy envisioned for the university's growth are now becoming a reality, he commended the performance of the current Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani. Subsequently, several retired professors took the podium to share their reminiscences and recall their association with Prof. Ram Reddy.

As a part of this the university organized organised “Placement Drive” with Infinx Technology Pvt.Ltd, Wings Infonet Private Limited, Mukta Zest, Rockwood International group of schools, Sensational Agri Inputs Pvt Ltd, SISCO Pvt Ltd, Magic Bus India Foundation, Team Lease, Dr.Reddy Foundation, for University students who passed in 2023 to 2025 batches at its campus on Friday. Prof. Rabindranath Solomon, OSD to VC and Dr. P. Venu Gopal Reddy, Placement Officer stated that they are moving forward in accordance with the directives of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, with the primary objective of creating employment opportunities for students studying at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University. The Placement drive was conducted specifically for students who have studied and successfully graduated from Ambedkar University. Speaking on the occasion, they explained that a campus placement drive was conducted to facilitate employment opportunities across various organizations, as a result, 102 students secured jobs, while over a hundred other students were selected for the final round of interviews. While more than 3,000 candidates registered for this placement drive, 416 students attended the first phase. Representatives from the respective organizations handed over job offer letters to the selected candidates. Through this initiative, job placements were secured across various sectors including IT, office administration, teaching, and marketing at nine organizations.The various organisations announced that additional placement drives are scheduled to be conducted in the coming days. హైదరాబాద్, మే 14, 2026: దేశంలో ఇంకా కుల వివక్ష ఉందని, ఆధునిక యుగంలో కూడా ఇది ఉండడం దురధృష్టమని రామన్ మెగాసెసే అవార్డు గ్రహీత, అంబేద్కర్ ఓపెన్ యూనివర్సిటీ పూర్వ విద్యార్థి శ్రీ బెజవాడ విల్సన్ ఆందోళన వ్యక్తం చేశారు. "విద్యా వారోత్సవాల్లో" భాగంగా డా. బి. ఆర్. అంబేద్కర్ ఓపెన్ యూనివర్శిటీలో “పూర్వ విద్యార్థుల స్ఫూర్తిదాయక ప్రసంగం” అనే అంశంపై విద్యార్ధుల కోసం ప్రత్యేక కార్యక్రమాన్ని నిర్వహించారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో రామన్ మెగాసెసే అవార్డు 5గ్రహీత, విశ్వవిద్యాలయ పూర్వ విద్యార్థి శ్రీ బెజవాడ విల్సన్ ప్రధాన వక్తగా పాల్గొని ప్రసంగించారు. ఆయన మాట్లాడుతూ... దేశానికి స్వాతంత్ర్యం వచ్చి 80 వసంతాలు కావస్తున్నా ఉత్తరాదిలోని కొన్ని రాష్ట్రాల్లో ఇంకా సఫాయి ఖర్మచారి వ్యవస్థ ఉందని దాన్ని నిర్మూలించడానికి చేపట్టిన ఇండియా @ 80 ఉద్యమానికి విద్యావంతులు మేధావులు మద్దతు ఇవ్వాలని ఆయన కోరారు. అణగారిన వర్గాల నుంచి వచ్చిన విద్యార్ధులను వారి మానసిక, సామాజిక పరిస్థితిని, అర్ధం చేసుకొని అధ్యాపకులు విద్యాబోధన చేయాలని అందరు విద్యార్ధులతో కలిపి చూడరాదని అభ్యర్ధించారు. దేశంలో ప్రభుత్వ స్కూల్స్ కొంతమేర బాగా పనిచేస్తున్నా కూడా ప్రైవేటు స్కూల్స్ ధనికులకే ఉపయోగం అన్నారు. చదువు అన్ని వర్గాల వారికి ఉన్నతమైన విలువలను నేర్పలాని, అందరూ సమానమే అనే భావన ప్రతీ ఒక్కరిలో రావాలని ఆ దిశగా యూనివర్సిటీ లు, విద్యా సంస్థలు పని చేయాలని పిలుపునిచ్చారు. తనలాంటి లక్షలాది మందికి అంబేద్కర్ ఓపెన్ యూనివర్శిటీ జీవితాన్ని ప్రసాదించిందని వెల్లడించారు. దేశంలో ఇంకా పితృస్వామ్య వ్యవస్థ ఉందని, దీనిపై విస్తృత చర్చ జరగాలని బెజవాడ విల్సన్ పిలుపు నిచ్చారు.

హైదరాబాద్, మే 14, 2026: "విద్యా వారోత్సవాల్లో" భాగంగా డా. బి. ఆర్. అంబేద్కర్ ఓపెన్ యూనివర్శిటీ, అంతర్గత నాణ్యత హామీ విభాగం (IQAC), జాతీయ అధ్యయన, గుర్తింపు మండలి (NAAC), కామన్వెల్త్ ఆఫ్ లెర్నింగ్ (COL) సహకారంతో “న్యాక్ తో విద్యాపరమైన సంభాషణ” అనే అంశంపై ప్రత్యేక కార్యక్రమాన్ని నిర్వహించారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో న్యాక్ డైరెక్టర్ ప్రొ.గణేశన్ కన్నాభిరాన్ పాల్గొని విశ్వవిద్యాలయంలో ఈ నెల 27, 28 తేదీలలో జరగబోయే జాతీయ స్థాయి వర్క్‌షాప్ కోసం చేసిన ఏర్పాట్లను సమీక్షించారు. నాణ్యతా హామీ వ్యవస్థలను (క్వాలిటీ అస్యూరెన్స్ సిస్టమ్స్) మెరుగుపరచడానికి ఈ వర్క్‌షాప్‌ను నిర్వహించనున్నట్లు వెల్లడించారు. అనంతరం ఆయన విశ్వవిద్యాలయ డీన్లు, డైరేక్టర్లతో సమావేశమయ్యారు. వారు తమ శాఖలలోని ప్రామాణిక కార్యాచరణ విధానం (స్టాండర్డ్ ఆపరేటింగ్ ప్రొసీజర్) గురించి వివరించారు. అన్ని వర్గాలకు సమాన అవకాశాలు కల్పించేలా సమ్మిళిత విద్యను అందించడానికి అంబేద్కర్ విశ్వవిద్యాలయం చేస్తున్న కృషిని ప్రొ. కన్నాభిరాన్ ప్రశంసించారు.
ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో విశ్వవిద్యాలయ వైస్ ఛాన్సలర్ ప్రొఫెసర్ ఘంటా చక్రపాణి మాట్లాడుతూ అంబేద్కర్ ఓపెన్ యూనివర్సిటీ లో విద్యా నాణ్యతా ప్రమాణాలు పెంచడానికి తీసుకుంటున్న నిర్ణయాలను వివరించారు. ఒకవైపు ఆదివాసీ గిరిజన విద్యార్ధులకు, ట్రాన్స్ జెండర్ లకు, దివ్యాంగులకు ఉచిత విద్యను ప్రవేశాపెడుతూనే మరో వైపు కార్పొరేట్ కంపనీలతో అవగాహనా ఒప్పందాలు చేస్తూ, తమ విద్యార్ధులకు ప్రఖ్యాత సంస్థల్లో ఉద్యోగాలు వచ్చేలా చర్యలు తీసుకుంటున్నట్లు వెల్లడించారు.
కార్యక్రమంలో విశ్వవిద్యాలయ అకడమిక్ డైరెక్టర్ ప్రొ.జి. పుష్పా చక్రపాణి; రిజిస్ట్రార్, డా.విజయ కృష్ణా రెడ్డి; ప్రొ.పల్లవి కబ్డే, ఓఎస్డీ ప్రొ.రవీంద్రనాథ్ సోలమన్, ప్రొ. ఐ. ఆనంద్ పవార్, డా.వై. వెంకటేశ్వర్లు; ప్రొ. రజనీ, ప్రొ. చంద్రకళ, ప్రొ. రాణి రజిత మాధురి తదితరులు పాల్గొన్నారు.
