AIILSG, New Delhi, recently hosted a Two-Day Brainstorming Session on “Technological Road Map for Decarbonisation of Cities”.
The event was graced by the presence and insights of Mr Hitesh Vaidya, Advisor - Cities Unit, UNEP, Dr Priyabrart Rautray, School of Design, IIT Jodhpur, and Dr Asheesh Sharma, NEERI, Nagpur, who shared global perspectives, research-driven innovations, and implementable technological solutions for city-led climate action. The deliberations were further strengthened by the active participation of Chief Municipal Officers and senior officials from various ULBs in Madhya Pradesh, ensuring that the discussions remained firmly rooted in on-the-ground realities.
A key highlight of the event was the release of the handbook CiTY Showcase: Dhanpuri, Madhya Pradesh, presented by Ms Puja Bunkar, Chief Municipal Officer, Dhanpuri. The handbook demonstrates practical, replicable Net-Zero pathways for small cities, aligning local action with India’s Net-Zero commitments. It showcases how smaller urban centres can lead climate action through scalable technologies, innovative governance, and community-driven solutions.
The sessions focused on urban energy systems, waste management and circular economy, sustainable mobility, digital governance, and innovative financing mechanisms. Together, these deliberations contributed to the development of a draft technological roadmap, identification of pilot projects, and stronger partnerships among governments, knowledge institutions, and development partners.
This initiative marks an important milestone in empowering cities - large and small - to drive climate-resilient, low-carbon urban development across India.
