The Home Science Department at Kumari Vidyawati Anand DAV College for Women, Karnal, organized a visit to a bakery Oven & Oak, Karnal on April 28, 2026. Approximately 15 students of B.Voc. Food Science & Quality Control went on the visit. Ms. Riya, the bakery owner, provided detailed information about the baked goods process. Students were also introduced to various types of cake icing (frosting). Students also learnt important information about safety procedures and adherence to food quality guidelines.

The Department of Home Science organized a workshop on the topic “Sewing Creativity” on April 16, 2026. Experts Mr. Maninder Pal Singh and Mr. Harsimran Singh were the resource persons from Usha Company, Jalandhar. They provided students with detailed knowledge about the operation, techniques, and uses of modern sewing machines. They explained the various functions of electric sewing machines, essential tools, and different models of Usha machines in a simple and practical manner. They also demonstrated different embroidery techniques performed using the machines. Additionally, students were taught useful skills such as hemming (fold stitching), making pleats, and creating buttonholes. This training offered them an excellent opportunity to learn modern sewing and embroidery skills, which will be beneficial for their future and self-employment.

The Department of Chemistry, Kumari Vidyavati Anand D.A.V. College for Women, Karnal, under the aegis of IQAC, successfully celebrated World Earth Day on April 22, 2026, with the theme “Chemistry for a Green and Sustainable Planet.”
The programme aimed to create awareness about environmental protection and the vital role of chemistry in promoting sustainable practices. Dr. Manju Singh, Head of the Department of Chemistry, delivered an insightful awareness talk highlighting innovative chemical approaches for environmental conservation.
The event featured a short film on sustainability, followed by an engaging interactive discussion where students actively explored solutions to current environmental challenges. A quiz competition was also organized to reinforce learning in an interesting manner.
The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty, reflecting a shared commitment towards building a greener and more sustainable future.

The Department of Home Science organized a workshop on "Preserve the Flavor" on April 24, 2026. Ms. Mansi, from Yash Food Productions, served as a resource person and provided students with useful information on food preservation and the making of jams and pickles. Twelve students from B.Voc. Food Science & Quality Control participated in the workshop. Ms Mansi explained the students about various food products and demonstrated the making of apple jam, lemon pickle, garlic pickle and green chili pickle. She explained the importance of spices used in food preparation and highlighted their role in enhancing flavor, color, and aroma.

The Department of Home Science organized one day workshop on April 18, 2026 on the topic "Lippan Art", in collaboration with “Nav Creations Fashion Boutique, Karnal”. Thirteen students from Bachelor of Fashion designing and B.Voc Fashion Technology participated in the workshop. Ms Naveen Kaushik, the resource person explained the origin, and importance of Lippan Art. She demonstrated the step-by-step process of creating designs on a base surface. Participants also created their own designs by shaping clay into patterns and embedding mirrors. The session was interactive, and students actively engaged in experimenting with different motifs.

Under the able guidance of Principal Smt. Meenu Sharma ji, five students from the Department of History, Kumari Vidyavati Anand D.A.V. College for Women, Karnal participated in the Quiz and Essay Writing Competition organized to commemorate the 200th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule on *11th April, 2026* organized by Gandhi Memorial National College, Ambala Cantt. Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The students were accompanied by Dr. Parvesh, Assistant Professor, Department of History.
Ms. Shruti, B.A. II Year, secured First Position in the Essay Writing Competition. She was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1500/-, a trophy, and a certificate of merit. Four students of B.A. III Year also participated and were awarded Certificates of Appreciation
Ms. Tanya Sharma, Ms. Tushali, Ms. Nagma – Quiz Competition & Ms. Rajni Kaushik – Essay Writing Competition. The principal appreciated the efforts of all the participants and the accompanying faculty member for bringing laurels to the institution. Dr. Renu Baliyan, also extended heartiest congratulations to all the students of the Department of History for their commendable performance and wished them success in all future endeavours. The event provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their knowledge and express their views on the life and contributions of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.
Students along with Dr Parvesh also visited the Markandeshwar Mahadev Temple, a site of great historical and religious significance. The visit aimed to acquaint students with the architectural features, cultural heritage, and mythological importance of the temple.
