An insightful Estampage Workshop was organized at Bharat Kala Bhavan as part of the Epigraphy Workshop, led by Dr. Priyanka Singh, Associate Professor, Department of AIHC and Archaeology. Shri Nihar Ranjan Patra conducted a practical demonstration for epigraphy students.
The session introduced participants to the traditional technique of taking inked impressions of stone and copperplate inscriptions. Through hands-on practice, students learned how estampage helps preserve, document and study inscriptions without damaging the originals.
The workshop successfully combined practical training with academic learning, fostering a deeper appreciation for India’s epigraphic heritage and the importance of its conservation.

Bharat Kala Bhavan had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Bindulika Sharma, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Jamia Millia Islamia. During her visit, Dr. Priyanka Chandra, Assistant Curator, led a curatorial walk through the museum’s galleries. Prof. Sharma expressed her appreciation for the museum’s rich and diverse collections.
She was particularly captivated by the sculptural masterpieces and admired the ethereal beauty and remarkable iconographic richness of the collection.

The first internship programme at Bharat Kala Bhawan selected eight interns through a competitive process, marking the beginning of an initiative to connect young scholars with museum practices and cultural heritage.

From September 2025 to February 2026, the interns contributed to major exhibitions, including Ramlila: A Living Tradition of Kashi and Ganga-Kaveri Sampravah: A Special Exhibition during Kashi-Tamil Sangamam. They supported documentation, curation, outreach, visitor engagement, research, and publications, contributing significantly to the museum’s activities and operations.

This inaugural batch laid the foundation for future internship programmes and strengthened youth engagement within the museum ecosystem.

Bharat Kala Bhavan was honored to host the Professor Amitabh Pande, Director, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, Bhopal, for a special curatorial visit. Accompanied by Assistant Curator Dr. Priyanka Chandra, the dignitary was warmly welcomed by Prof. Sreerup Raychaudhuri, Director, Bharat Kala Bhavan.

The visit focused on exploring BKB’s distinguished collections. Discussions highlighted the rare sculptures, textiles, hold coins, decorative arts and mughal miniatures that define the museum’s legacy.

Professor Pande appreciated BKB’s role in preserving tangible and intangible heritage of the region. The exchange opened avenues for future academic programs and exhibitions celebrating India’s diverse material culture.

Such visits strengthen the shared mission of museums: to safeguard memory and inspire learning through objects.

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संग्रहालय दिवस के विशेष अवसर पर दिनांक 18 मई 2026 को काशी हिंदू विश्वविद्यालय (BHU) स्थित संग्रहालय भारत कला भवन में कलात्मक और शैक्षणिक कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन किया गया। इसका मुख्य उद्देश्य युवा पीढ़ी को कला, संस्कृति और अपने समृद्ध इतिहास के प्रति जागरूक करना था।

इस विशेष अवसर पर दो मुख्य कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन किया गया:

·युवाओं के लिए चित्रकला प्रतियोगिता: संग्रहालय परिसर में एक चित्रकला प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन किया गया जिसमे में 16 से 25 वर्ष की आयु के कुल 25 छात्र एवं छात्राओं ने प्रतिभाग किया। युवा कलाकार ने अपनी कल्पना और आयामों को काग़ज़ पर उतारा।

·विशेषज्ञों द्वारा 'क्यूरेटेड वॉक':
इसके साथ ही, कला संकाय एवं Well Being Services Cell, BHU द्वारा विशेष रूप से चयनित 25 छात्रों के एक समूह के लिए भारत कला भवन का एक विशेष 'क्यूरेटेड वॉक' (Curated Walk) आयोजित किया गया। यह वॉक भारत कला भवन के सहायक संग्रहाध्यक्ष डॉ0 प्रियंका चन्द्र एवं डॉ0 दीपक भरथन अलाथुर के मार्गदर्शन में कराई गई। इस दौरान छात्रों को संग्रहालय की दुर्लभ कलाकृतियों, ऐतिहासिक धरोहरों और उनके पीछे के समृद्ध इतिहास के बारे में गहन तकनीकी व ऐतिहासिक जानकारियां प्राप्त की।

इस अवसर पर भारत कला भवन के उप निदेशक डॉ0 निशांत के द्वारा डॉ0 शैलेन्द्र सिंह और डॉ0 नित्यानन्द तिवारी, छात्र सलाहकार को अंगवस्त्र दे कर सम्मानित किया गया।

Warm greetings on Mother’s Day! 💐

On the occasion of Mother’s Day, Bharat Kala Bhavan reflects on the representation of motherhood in the artistic traditions of the Indian subcontinent across time and cultural contexts.

The terracotta Mother Goddess figure from Harappa (c. 2500 BCE), created using applique and pinching techniques, belongs to the material culture of the Indus Valley Civilization and is often associated with ideas of fertility, protection, and generative power in early urban societies.

In contrast, the Baal Leela of Rama, an Awadh–Jaipur Sub School painting dated to the 19th century CE, presents a deeply intimate domestic moment from the Ramayana: The child Rama being chased by Mother Kaushalya in an attempt to restrain his playful mischief. The work reflects the emotional and devotional dimensions of motherhood embedded within later pictorial traditions, where divine narratives were rendered through recognizably human relationships and gestures.

Koti koti pronam to the Kobi Guru on his birthday.

On the occasion of Ponchishe Boishakh—observed between 7–9 May every year—we commemorate the birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

The portrait of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, painted by Ustad Ram Prasad in the Varanasi style, evokes a profound sense of introspection and quiet dignity. Executed in the 20th century, the work captures the poet’s contemplative presence with striking emotional depth.

We also return to his timeless poem “1400 Saal” from the volume Chitra. Written in 1893 (the equivalent of the Bengali year 1300), the poem imagines a distant future—the Bengali year 1400, corresponding to 1993 in the Gregorian calendar—with astonishing tenderness and foresight. More than a century later, Tagore’s words continue to travel across time, speaking to generations yet unborn.
