Regional Institute of Science & Technology - RIST

Regional Institute of Science & Technology - RIST This is the official page of RIST - an engineering college par excellence. Approved by AICTE, New De RIST is an engineering college of par excellence.

It is the 4th venture of ERD Foundation, Guwahati. RIST provides B.Tech Courses approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, Ministry of HRD, Govt of India & is affiliated to North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, the first Prestigious Central University in the North Eastern part of India. RIST is the largest Technical campus of North east India spread over an

area of 130 acres, aptly named as Techno City. The contours of Technical Education in India have seen manifold changes in recent times. The staggering demand for technical manpower in the different sectors have necessitated the need to harness a rich talent pool of human resources equipped with the latest know how to complement this demand in a relevant manner. The scope of a Technical Institution in 21st Century India is derived from this challenge of imparting not only quality education, but also in providing a practicable skill set, relevant to the need of the times. The genesis of The Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) can be attributed to this very challenge. RIST is situated on a picturesque hill in 9th Mile, Killing Road, Opposite CRPF Group Centre, RI Bhoi District, Baridua, Meghalaya. It is well connected to the rest of India by road, air and railway and is only 6 km from the Capital of Assam, Dispur and 85 km from the Capital of Meghalaya, Shillong. The campus is 15 km from Guwahati Railway station, 40 km from LGBI Airport, Guwahati. The management of the Institute is committed towards taking all possible measures for the overall growth of our students through active participation of guardians /parents, faculty members and students themselves. The feedback of the students on teachers, feedback of teachers on students, feedback of guardians/parents on different aspects of functioning of the institute and the guidelines of AICTE constitute a strong base for the management to initiate measures for improvement, the major components of management being (a) the Executive Committee and (b) the Academic Advisory Body comprising personalities of eminence. In today’s scenario of service extended by the engineers in the capacity of there an employee or entrepreneur, it is indeed the knowledge (not the marks) that counts eventually after you obtain your degree. It is this context that our institute has been committed to direct its all effort towards the quality development of our students. I am glad to state that, in course of my interactions with many of your parents/guardians, they (parents /guardians) too strongly desire the quality development of their wards. To achieve this end of our objective a number of measures have been finalised through a series of discussion with management and also with our teachers, the following points give a glimpse of these measures. We have to today with us a number of senior teachers. They take classes along with our strong young faculty including a number of brilliant young ones appointed recently. In addition, we invite visiting faculty from IIT, NIT and other universities and institutions. The laboratories required are being developed even for meeting the requirements of the next academic year. A very strong way of monitoring the progress of academic activities has been in operation. At the end of completion of each period of 10 to 15 working days, the attendance of each student in each subject is assessed and the students failing to have the desired percentage are duly identified and thereafter, appropriate action including information to parents/guardians and personal interaction are taken. This measure has been thought of truly in recognition of the fact that our faculty members can do justice to their profession only when the students attend their classes regularly. The same approach is taken in respect of monitoring the performance of students in submission of class assignment and in class tests as well. RIST attaches due importance to the extracurricular activities of our students. Apart from games and sports, we organize educational tours to industries career counseling talks, group discussion, practical training etc. the college magazine is also brought out annually to encourage students to share among themselves the knowledge they acquire in different fields. The website of our institute is another plate form through which we all including parents/guardians, students and teachers share all information pertaining to different activities of ours. Very Shortly, RIST will start Post Graduate programmes with Ph.D in the existing branches of technology under the able guidance & Collaboration of renowned academicians, scientists and Institutes. Within a short span of time RIST have organized several International & National Conferences & Seminars which have been graced by several stalwarts like Dr Gautam Baruah , Director, IIT-G, Dr Sukumar Nandi, Dean Academics, IIT-G, Dr S. Choudhury, Dean , School of Technology, NEHU, Ms Andriew Mc Marie, University Of Montreal, Canada, Dr K K Das, VC, Dibrugarh University, Prof G D Sharma, Pro-VC, Assam University, Silchar, Dr PG Rao, Director, NEIST, Jorhat, Dr G S Yonzone, Former Prof, Darjeeling University, Prof. PK Jha, Nepal Academy of Science, Dr Shah Faesal, IAS, Topper,2009 and many more……

The Management has also acquired an additional 400 acres of land to develop the University near RIST

The name of the institute, i.e. Regional Institute of Science & Technology itself suggests a very unique feature here in we have students and teachers from all cultures and religions of the region and truly presents a situation of harmony and integration of north-eastern region. This beauty of our institute has been indeed a major factor contributing towards the growth of this institute to the present level within a short period of time. Recognition & Affiliation
