Bodoland University

Bodoland University Bodoland University is a new growing university in Kokrajhar with our Native Language Departments to from Kokrajhar. Located in Debargaon, which is about 9 K.M.

Bodoland University was established by Bodoland University Act 2009, passed in the Assam legislative Assembly. The present Bodoland University is an up-gradation of the Kokrajhar campus of Gauhati University to a full fledged state University as per the provision of the Act. The setting-up of the new university comes as a fulfillment of the dreams of the people of entire lower Assam, irrespective

of caste, creed or economic status. The new university would cater to the educational need of the people, not only of the Bodoland area but also the adjoining states and nations like Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh. Keeping in view the culture of various ethnic communities, geographical features and natural resources, the university aims at providing quality education to the students of this region so that their talents and potentials can be tapped for the advancement of this area and society. Besides teaching, the University will also promote research, fully need-based, in unexplored areas. Needless to say, as a centre of excellence the university is committed to the development of the quality of living of the common mass through its academic involvement, interaction and dissemination of knowledge. The University has strategic location with its spatial closeness to West Bengal, at a distance of 45 K.M, Bhutan around 50 K.M., and Bangladesh around 110 K.M. It welcomes students and researchers across the border. Kokrajhar being the Headquarter of Bodoland Territorial council, the town offers all modern facilities and opportunities to the large flow of the people. Kokrajhar railway station is an important link to the major cities of India like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Puri, Ahmedabad, Ranchi, Patna etc. Nearest airports, however, are Guwahati and Bagdogra in West Bengal, which are at the distance of about 200 K.M. from Kokrajhar town, the university is well-connected by bus, auto-rickshaw, taxi from Kokrajhar town and the road leads towards and connects the National High Way No 31(C) at Karigaon. As the university campus is away from the din and bustle of the main town of Kokrajhar, a calm and quiet atmosphere prevails in this picturesque area. Surrounded by the river, Gaurang in the west, lush-green paddy-fields in the south, sleepy hamlets in the north and an enchanting park in the east, the ambience is suitable for uninterrupted study and research.
