𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐬- The father of modern statistics in India was born on 29th June 1893. He pursued his early education in Calcutta. He graduated with honors in Physics from Presidency College, Calcutta in 1912. Later on he went to Cambridge University for higher studies where he was introduced to Statistics and through his hands only Statistics came into our country. On 17th Dec 1931 he founded the Indian Statistical Institute in the Physics laboratory in Presidency College Kolkata which later grew up to be the unique institution of India focused on Statistics.He is best remembered for the Mahalanobis distance and his contribution to the design of large scale sample surveys. He was also the founder of the Indian Journal of Statistics *Sankhya*. One of his famous book is Experiments in Statistical Sampling in the ISI. All the contributions of this eminent personality led the government of India to decide in 2006 to celebrate his birthday as National Statistics Day. He received some of the prestigious awards like Padma Vibhushan (1968), Fellow of the Royal Society, Officer of the Order of the British Empire (1942), Weldon Memorial Prize(1944) etc. This great Stalwart passed away on 28th June 1972 , leaving some valuable contributions for the future upcoming faces.

Milieu '22 presents the second academic panel of the festival, as a part of the event, Scientists' meet in association with Science Society.

We are glad to have with us Prof. Supratik Pal, Professor and Head, Physics and Applied Mathematics Unit, Indian Statistical Institute,who will broadly talk on astrophysics and his topic will be ' Lights,camera, Universe! ' ; Prof. Deb Shankar Ray, Senior Professor, Department of Physical Chemistry, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science ; Prof. Jayanta K Bhattacharjee, Distinguished emeritus fellow, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, who will deliver his talk on the topic 'Patterns arise from conflicts'.

Milieu '22 and Presidency University Science Society bring to you the panel discussion entirely upon popular science on 10th May at P C Mahalanobis Auditorium from 2 PM. There will be interactive sessions for students also at the end of the talks.
It is open to all. Come and join us.

It is important to be aware of the crisis of environment related issues and in attempt to do that, Milieu '22 and Presidency University Science Society bring to you the panel discussion on 10th May at P C Mahalanobis Auditorium from 11:30 PM.
