On 8th March, 2022, an event was organized on the occasion of ‘ International Women’s Day ’ by the Editorial Board of the Post Graduate Department of Economics in collaboration with Centre for Women’s Studies, on a virtual platform, Google Meet. The event was presided by the college President Dr ( Mrs.) E.S. CharlesandPrincipal, Dr Vinita Prakash.It was conducted under the guidance of Dr.Anupama Srivastava, (Head, Department of Economics and Coordinator of Centre for Women’s Studies) along with faculty members Dr.AmitaMarwah, Mrs. PritiSharma, Mr.AyushGoel and Ms. Anjali Yadav.
The guest speakers for the event were Dr.Sangeeta Desai, currently visiting faculty, Sophia college, Mumbai ,Dr.Ruby Bakshi, Alumni, award winning Educationalist, Dr.Varuni Pathak, Alumni, guest speaker Assistant Professor, in the department of Geography,Central University, Allahabad,Mrs. Vipra Srivastava, Alumni, presently heading the Tataclass edge operations of U.P. and theonly lady in sales and operations, Dr. Vijay Ratna, Alumni, head of the Sarsual block, in Kanpur Nagar, U.P. , Assistant Professor in Smt. RamkaliIqbal Bahadur Group of Colleges, in Kanpur Nagar, U.P. and Mrs.Pranika Bhatt, Alumni, founder and director of Shistsmriti, a trained Kathak dancer from Lucknow Gharana and a member of the Council of International Dancers ( UNESCO ) .
The event started with a general welcome by the Principal, Dr. Vinita Prakash. She encouraged the students to believe in themselves and emerge as winners depite odds.The Guest of Honour of the event was Dr. ( Mrs.) E.S. Charles.Members of Ed Board, Anushkaand Ritika were the host for day and Jennifer lead us all into the word of prayer.
The event started with the guest of honour, Dr. E. S. Charles who shared her thoughts and experiences. She encouragedthe students to be courageous and stand out and have a wonderful life. Then the next speaker Dr.Anupma Srivastava shared the objectives and mission of Centre for Women’s Studies through her presentation. Thekeynote speaker,Dr.SangeetaDesai focussedon the struggles a woman faced in her daily life. Be iteducation, career, life decisions, a womanwas dependent on men and to overcome this, she had started initiatives to make them aware, strong and independent. The next speaker was Dr.RubyBakshiand she stated some of the events of her life. How she overcame her shyness. andovercame male – dominated decisions,studied abroadand overcame the challenges to make a name for herself. She was then followed by the next speaker Dr.Varuni Pathak whotold us about pervasive inequality and discrimination in all aspects of society. She undauntingly faced all the challenges and the small – mindedness and emerged an achiever. The next speaker was Mrs. Vipra Srivastava. She threw light on the need for a woman to support another woman to achieve formidable changes in society. She gave theexample ofSavitri Bai Phule who was an Indian social reformer, educationlist and the role she played in improving women’s rights in India. She was then followed by the next speaker Dr.VijayRatna. She talked aboutthe conservative society in whichwomen were constantly being reminded of how they should sit, work and live and how they should match the expectations of the society and irrespective of all this she broke all the stereotypes and worked hard to emerge victorious. Mrs. Pranika Bhatt was the last speaker who threw light on the difficulties she faced in her life. She dwelledon how she worked hard during pandemic and started her online classes, the difficulties she faced to achieve her dream of dancing without any financial support. She enlightened the students abouthow dancing and yoga helped her to attain inner peace. She emphasized the need to be positive in all situations. Last but not the least, students recited poemsand shared their entrepreneurial experiences.
In the end of the program, Dr.Anupama Srivastava conveyed a formal vote of thanks to everyone for being a part and making it a successful one.
