A team representing the University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, comprising Jessica (B.A. LL.B., 10th Semester), Khushi Aggarwal (B.A. LL.B., 10th Semester), and Abhijai Singh Rana (LL.B., 4th Semester), secured the Runner-Up position at the H.S. Mattewal National Moot Court Competition 2026 (9th RBUSL Moot Court).
The competition, held from 27–28 March 2026 and organized by Rayat Bahra University, Mohali, witnessed participation from 41 teams across the country. The team’s remarkable performance reflects their strong advocacy skills, legal acumen, and dedication.
The achievement was accomplished under the guidance and support of Director Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Virk and MCS Faculty Coordinator Dr. Vaishali Thakur, whose mentorship played a significant role in the team’s success.

The University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, takes pride in the outstanding achievement of its students, who secured the Runners-Up position among 35 participating teams at the 5th Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Moot Court Competition, organized by CT University, Punjab, held from April 2 to 4, 2026. The competition witnessed participation from leading law schools and universities across the nation.

Under the adept guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Virk, Director, PURC, Ludhiana, and with the constant support of the faculty coordinator, Dr. Vaishali Thakur, the team demonstrated exceptional legal acumen and analytical skills in their arguments. The judges highly commended their research, presentation, and overall performance.

The Institute was proudly represented by Jesus Goyal, Divyansh Yadav, and Harsh Kumar, final-year B.A. LL.B. students, who brought laurels to the institution by clinching the Runners-Up trophy along with a cash prize.

Travelling—it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.”

University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana organized an excursion trip to Darjeeling and Shillong from 20th March to 28th March, 2026. A total of 81 students participated in the trip. It turned out to be an amazing retreat for the students where they got to learn about the rich culture and history of the North East. It was organized under the patronship of Prof. (Dr.) Renu Vig, the Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, and under the able guidance of the Director of PURC Ludhiana, Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Virk.

Students kicked off their Himalayan expedition with a scenic drive from NJP to Darjeeling, where they witnessed a breathtaking sunrise over Mt. Kanchenjunga at Tiger Hill and explored cultural landmarks like Ghoom Monastery and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. The journey transitioned through the landscapes of Mirik toward Shillong, featuring a stop at the tranquil Umiam Lake and an afternoon soaking in the dramatic views of Laitlum Canyon and the energy of Police Bazar. The trip concluded in Guwahati with a spiritual visit to the historic Kamakhya Temple before a final departure from the railway station, leaving the group with a lifetime of unforgettable memories.

The Student Coordinators Chetan Sharma (DR), Karandeep Singh Punia, Sourav Sharma, and Karanvir Singh Sidhu ensured a smooth relationship between the students and streamlining the process for a better experience. Faculty Members Dr. Sarita Paul, Dr. Homa Bansal, and Mr. Vishal Saklani accompanied the students on the trip.

The University Institute of Law (UIL), Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, is proud to announce the monumental victory of its student team at the 3rd IILM Moot Court Competition, recently concluded at IILM University, Greater Noida.
​Outshining a massive field of 78 teams from across India including premier National Law Universities and elite private institutions the UIL team emerged as the Overall Winners of the prestigious competition.

REPORT OF VISIT TO MARTYR SUKHDEV THAPAR MEMORIAL
A visit to the ancestral house of Sukhdev Thapar located in Sandeep Nagar, Ludhiana, was
organized on 24th March 2026 by the University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional
Centre (PURC), Ludhiana on the occasion of Shahid Diwas to commemorate the supreme
sacrifices of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev .The visit aimed to instil a sense of
patriotism, historical awareness, and respect for the sacrifices made by these freedom
fighters. The programme was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Renu
Vig, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, and Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Virk, Director,
PURC Ludhiana. The event was coordinated by Faculty Coordinator Ms. Tamanna Kohli,
whose efforts ensured the smooth organization and meaningful ex*****on of the visit.A total
number of 33 students were taken as a part of this visit. The visit was further supported by
the active involvement of student coordinators Khushi Kohli, Mayank Gupta, and Tanisha
(B.A. LL.B, 4th Semester). Their dedicated coordination facilitated effective participation and
engagement of the students throughout the programme. A significant highlight of the visit
was the interaction with Sandeep Thapar, a descendant of Sukhdev Thapar and Trustee
Member of the Sukhdev Thapar Memorial, who shared valuable insights into the life, legacy,
and sacrifices of the martyr. Additionally, Eshaan Thapar, another descendant currently
pursuing a career in the field of law also enriched the session with his perspectives, making
it more relatable and inspiring for the students. To make the experience more engaging and
impactful, an enactment depicting the life and sacrifice of Sukhdev Thapar was performed
by Priya Dhingra and Anushka (B.A. LL.B., 1st Year, 2nd Semester). The performance was
deeply moving and effectively conveyed the spirit of patriotism and courage. The visit proved
to be highly fruitful and enlightening and encouraged the students to reflect upon the values
of courage, sacrifice, and national pride. The programme concluded on a meaningful note,
leaving a lasting impression on all participants and reinforcing the importance of
remembering and honouring the nation’s heroes.

Moot Court Competition 2026 Concludes with Valedictory Ceremony
The 6th National Moot Court Competition, 2026 organized by the University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, successfully concluded on 18th March, 2026, marking the culmination of three days of rigorous legal debates and outstanding advocacy.
Day 3 commenced with the Semi-Final Rounds, where participants displayed remarkable command over legal principles and persuasive advocacy.
The competition then progressed to the Final Round, where the top two teams TC 610 and TC 601 presented their arguments before a distinguished panel of judges. The Final Round was graced and adjudged by an esteemed panel comprising Chief guest , Justice M.S. Chauhan, Former Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh , Guest of honour , Prof.(Dr.) Deepak Kumar Chauhan, Dean, School of Legal studies, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda and Guest of honour Prof.(Dr.) Runa Mehta Thakur, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla who appreciated the participants’ clarity of arguments, composure, and command over legal principles. The finalists demonstrated exceptional clarity, research depth, and courtroom demeanor, making the round highly engaging and intellectually stimulating. The event concluded with a Valedictory Ceremony, where the winning team comprising Anagha TK, Nakuldev Singh Rathore, and Ujjwal from National Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar, Gujrat and runnerup team comprising S. Phanitawya Soumya Lakshmi , Adithya Raju Kurup and Jahnavi Guttla from Damodaram Sanjivayya National law Universitv, Andhra Pradesh were felicitated for their outstanding performances.

Preliminary Rounds Witness Intense Legal Arguments at 6th National Moot Court Competition 2026
The second day of the 6th National Moot Court Competition, 2026 held at the University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, witnessed intense courtroom simulations and compelling legal arguments presented by the participating teams.
Day 2 featured two Preliminary Rounds, where the 28 participating teams presented their submissions as Prosecution and Defence before an esteemed panel of judges comprising academicians and legal professionals. The rounds tested participants on their legal reasoning, interpretation of law, advocacy skills, and ability to respond to judicial queries.
The participants demonstrated exceptional preparation and confidence while presenting arguments on complex legal issues outlined in the moot proposition. The judges evaluated the teams on parameters such as clarity of arguments, court etiquette, research depth, and overall advocacy.
At the conclusion of the preliminary rounds, the top eight teams were shortlisted based on their cumulative scores to advance to the Quarter-Final Rounds, from where the top four teams advanced to the Semi-Final Rounds.
The day concluded with participants and organizers reflecting on the highly competitive rounds, setting the stage for even more intense arguments in the subsequent elimination rounds.

University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana 6th National Moot Court Competition 2026 Commences with Inaugural Ceremony.

The University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, commenced the 6th National Moot Court Competition, 2026 on 16th March, 2026 with great enthusiasm and participation from law students representing universities and institutions across the country. The prestigious event witnessed the participation of 28 teams, making it a vibrant platform for budding advocates to showcase their legal acumen and advocacy skills.

The first day of the competition began with the registration of participating teams, followed by the Inaugural Ceremony. Following the inauguration, the Researcher's Test was conducted to evaluate the research abilities, analytical thinking, and legal understanding of the researchers representing each team. The test aimed to assess the depth of legal research and comprehension of the moot proposition.

The event is being organized under the aegis of Prof.(Dr.) Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh and under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Virk, Director, UIL, PURC, Ludhiana, and coordinated by the Moot Court Society (MCS) under the supervision of Dr. Vaishali Thakur, Faculty Coordinator.

The NSS Unit of the University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana organized an NSS meeting and documentary screening on 11 March 2026 in the Seminar Hall. The programme was conducted under the aegis of Prof. (Dr.) Renu Vig, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, and under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Virk, Director, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana.

The documentary “The Man Who Dwarfed the Mountains” highlighted the inspiring journey of environmentalist Chandi Prasad Bhatt and the Chipko Movement, emphasizing community participation in forest conservation.

Around 50 students attended the programme and actively participated in an interactive session after the screening, sharing their reflections through poems, speeches, and short presentations on environmental protection and sustainable development.

The event was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Meera Nagpal, NSS Programme Coordinator, and Mr. Deepak Kumar, Faculty Coordinator, with the support of student coordinators Ishleen Kaur and Divroop. The programme proved to be an informative and inspiring session for the volunteers.

NSS Unit Organises Sanitary Pad Drive to Mark International Women’s Day

To commemorate International Women’s Day, the NSS Unit of Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana organised a Sanitary Pad Distribution Drive on 13th March 2026 at the slums around the bus stand, with the objective of promoting menstrual hygiene awareness and supporting women’s health and dignity at the grassroots level.

The programme was organised under the esteemed guidance of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Prof. Renu Vig, and under the aegis of the Director, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, Prof.(Dr. )Ashish Virk. The drive aimed to address the social stigma surrounding menstruation while emphasising the importance of access to safe and hygienic menstrual products for women and adolescent girls. The initiative reflected the true spirit of International Women’s Day by focusing on health, equality, and women’s empowerment.

As part of the drive, 20 NSS volunteers distributed sanitary pads to women and adolescent girls residing in the slum areas near the bus stand and interacted with them to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene, safe health practices, and the importance of breaking the silence around menstruation. The volunteers sensitised the participants about the adverse health effects of unhygienic menstrual practices and encouraged them to adopt hygienic and dignified menstrual care.
The sanitary pad drive was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Meera Nagpal (NSS Programme Coordinator) and Ms. Banveer Kaur Jhinger (Faculty Coordinator), with the active support of Hritik Puri 2nd year BA.LLB, Paarvi 2nd year BA.LLB and Khushi Kohli 2nd year BA.LLB (Student Co-coordinators) and dedicated NSS volunteers of the unit. The collective efforts of the NSS team ensured the smooth and successful ex*****on of the programme.
The initiative served as a meaningful observance of International Women’s Day, reinforcing the message that empowering women begins with ensuring their basic health, hygiene, awareness, and dignity.

Danishveer Singh Heher, a second-year LL.B. student at the University Institute of Laws, PURC Ludhiana, delivered a commendable performance by securing a Bronze Medal in the Individual Sprint event. His success highlights a high level of technical proficiency and competitive drive.

In the collective categories, the institution also achieved significant success:
