In today’s knowledge economy, research impact is often measured through patents, commercialization, and industry linkages, metrics that naturally favor STEM disciplines.

But what about contributions that shape policy, influence institutions, and drive social transformation?

SAHYOG SE VIKAS is an initiative by the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Management (SHSSM) at the NITK Surathkal to critically examine this imbalance and bring together perspectives from STEM, social sciences, humanities, and management.

The session will explore how interdisciplinary collaboration can address complex challenges such as technological ethics, public policy, inequality, and societal change, areas where no single discipline has all the answers.

Beyond discussions, the event also creates a platform for student-led interdisciplinary ideas and encourages new ways of defining research impact beyond traditional metrics.

We are honored to host an esteemed panel of speakers:

• Prof. Lung-jieh (Director of S&T, Taipei Economic & Cultural Center, Delhi)
• Prof. Keshav Lal Maharjan (Professor, University)
• Prof. Azizuddin Khan (Professor, IIT Bombay)
• Prof. Keyur Raval (Head, Chem. Eng., NITK)

If you’re interested in how research can move beyond outputs to outcomes and beyond metrics to meaning this is a conversation you shouldn’t miss.

The School of Humanities, Social Science and Management, NITK Surathkal had the opportunity to host Mr. Prasanna Koteshwar for a guest lecture on Financial Managerial Accounting. In an engaging and insightful session, he guided students beyond the basics of accounting and into the analytical mindset required to truly understand financial statements. Using real company balance sheets, he demonstrated how numbers reflect strategy, stability, and long-term direction, encouraging students to read not just the figures, but the story behind them.

The lecture emphasized how financial data is interpreted differently by various stakeholders - how management uses it for strategic decisions, how shareholders evaluate growth and risk, and how customers perceive financial strength. The session reinforced that financial literacy is not merely an academic requirement but an essential managerial competency that shapes effective leadership and informed decision-making.
