Gudi Padwa is the Marathi New Year, celebrated to mark the beginning of spring and the harvest season.
It is celebrated for various reasons :
New Beginnings: It marks the first day of the Hindu lunar calendar (Chaitra month) and the day Lord Brahma is said to have created the universe

Victory of Good: It commemorates Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana

Historical Pride: It honors the victories of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the start of the Shalivahan calendar

Prosperity: Hoisting the Gudi (the decorated pole) is believed to ward off evil and invite luck and good health into the home

Holika Dahan is a Hindu ritual observed on the eve of Holi, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. It usually takes place on the full moon night (Purnima) of the Hindu month of Phalguna (February–March).
The ritual is rooted in the legend of Prahlada and Holika. According to Hindu mythology, the demon king Hiranyakashipu sought to kill his son Prahlada for his unwavering devotion to Lord Vishnu. Holika, who had a boon that made her immune to fire, sat with Prahlada in a blazing pyre intending to burn him. However, due to divine intervention, Prahlada survived while Holika was consumed by the flames.
To commemorate this event, communities gather to light bonfires, perform prayers, sing devotional songs, and celebrate the triumph of faith and righteousness. The ritual also marks the end of winter and the arrival of spring, fostering a sense of renewal, unity, and positivity among people.
