The theoretical component covered the basic principles of first aid, emphasizing the importance of quick response, presence of mind, and proper assessment of the situation before providing care.
The hands-on training segment allowed participants to actively engage in simulated emergency scenarios. Key areas covered during the workshop included management of wounds, burns, scars, fractures, breathing difficulties, shock, and bleeding. Participants were guided on proper techniques such as wound cleaning and dressing, immobilization of fractures, controlling bleeding, and assisting individuals experiencing breathing distress.
Special attention was given to safety techniques and the correct use of first aid materials. Demonstrations were conducted to ensure clarity, followed by participant practice sessions under supervision, which helped reinforce their understanding and build confidence.
The workshop proved to be highly beneficial, as it not only enhanced the practical skills of the participants but also improved their readiness to handle emergency situations effectively. The interactive nature of the session encouraged active participation and fostered a sense of responsibility towards community health and safety.

Vermicompost Project
NSS Unit – Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic, SNDT Women’s University
The NSS Unit of Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic, SNDT Women’s University, initiated a Vermicompost Project at the SNDT Women’s University Juhu Campus as a part of its environmental sustainability initiative.
The main objective of this project is to promote eco-friendly waste management and create awareness among students about the importance of organic waste recycling. Vermicomposting is a natural process in which earthworms convert biodegradable waste into nutrient-rich organic manure.
Through this project, biodegradable waste such as vegetable peels, dry leaves, and garden waste generated on the campus will be collected and processed using earthworms to produce vermicompost. The compost produced can be used for gardening and plantation activities within the university campus.
NSS volunteers actively participated in setting up the vermicompost unit and learned the practical aspects of waste segregation, compost preparation, and maintenance of the composting process. This initiative helps students understand sustainable environmental practices and encourages them to adopt eco-friendly habits in their daily lives.
The Vermicompost Project is expected to contribute to a cleaner campus environment while also providing a practical learning experience for NSS volunteers
