Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service(SSIFS), established in 1986 by India's Ministry of External Affairs, trains Indian Foreign Service officers.

It also offers training for other Indian civil servants and foreign diplomats. Since 2007, Foreign Service Institute is located in a new campus for the FSI in a 6.5-acre plot of land adjoining the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus. The campus consists of Administrative, Hostel, and Residential complexes.

In line with India's BRICS Presidency priorities, Young Diplomats Forum(BYDF) commenced today, 18th May 2026, at SSIFS, New Delhi with the participation of 18 diplomats from 8 BRICS member countries.

The 5-day program was inaugurated by Amb. Sudhakar Dalela, Secretary(ER) & BRICS Sherpa, who highlighted BRICS as an important platform for inclusive growth, Global South cooperation and effective multilateralism, while underlining India’s Presidency priorities of resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability. He also emphasised the importance of people-to-people exchanges and practical cooperation in addressing emerging global challenges.

The Special Course for Diplomats from Nepal was inaugurated by Amb Raj Srivastava , Dean(SSIFS) at SSIFS today. 35 diplomats are participating in the 10 days program.

In the inaugural session,
Amb Srivastava talked about diplomacy, gave an overview of SSIFS, its competency (behavioural, functional & domain) based course content & India's "Viksit Bharat" vision.

He also spoke about diplomatic communications & writing skills, thematic categories of diplomacy,
theories of international relations, continued relevance & importance of Kautilyan philosophy & Guiding Principles of Indian Foreign Policy.

Additionally, he also spoke about Global South's Human Centric Growth Model, core dimensions of its Resilience, Vaccine Maitri, Yoga, and Govt of India's initiatives (ISA, CDRI, IBCA, GBA).

The Special Course on Functional Competencies for Smarter Diplomacy for officials from African Union Commission (AUC) was inaugurated by Amb Raj Srivastava, Dean(SSIFS) at SSIFS on 27 April,2026. 21 officers from the AUC are participating in the program.

In the inaugural session, Amb Srivastava gave a brief overview of the Institute, explained the three competencies - Behavioral, Functional & Domain, the Guiding Principles of Indian Foreign Policy,Theories of International Relations, Kautilyan philosophy, India Stack & Digital Public Infrastructure, Vaccine Maitri, Ayurveda, Yoga, and the Govt initiatives (ISA, CDRI, IBCA, & GBA).

The Special Course for Diplomats from ASEAN countries was inaugurated by Amb Raj Kumar Srivastava, Dean(SSIFS) at SSIFS today. 23 diplomats from 11 member countries of ASEAN participated in the program.

In the inaugural session, Amb Srivastava talked about the Guiding Principles of Indian Foreign Policy. He spoke about the 4Ps of 'diplomacy'(People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace), Theories of International Relations, continued relevance & importance of Kautilyan philosophy, 4Ts(Trade, Technology, Tourism, Talent) of the 'Diplomacy for Development', India Stack & Digital Public Infrastructure, India's Strategic Horizon, Core Dimensions of its Resilience, Vaccine Maitri, Ayurveda & Yoga, and also covered the Govt of India's initiatives (ISA, CDRI, IBCA, GBA).

On this special ocassion, Amb Srivastava also inaugurated the Exhibition of "Third ASEAN-India Artist Camp" at the Institute which will remain open till 24 April, 2026 & showcases the paintings of artists from the ASEAN nation states on the theme 'Echoes of Ramayana: Artistic Journeys across ASEAN & India' curated and put together by Shri Sanjeev Bhargava, Founder & Festival Director at SEHER.
