A message from Dr. Sanjib Bhakta, an.alumnus of Dept. Of Botany, RBC College.
Dear Sir, Madam, Colleagues and Friends at The Rishi Bankim Chandra College,
I hope this message finds you well. As a proud RBC Collegeβs alumnus, I would love to share a special milestone with you all, my Professorial Inaugural Lecture. Having matriculated at RBC's about 35 years ago for my BSc (Hons) at the Department of Botany (University of Calcutta), the College has always held a special place in my heart.
I would be delighted if you could attend the lecture, either in person or online. It would mean a great deal to have the RBCβs community, past and present, there to mark this occasion with me.
Below is the draft text and event registration link associated with my invitation. Please share my cordial invite (feel free to edit as needed) with current students and staff and, if suitable, include it in the forthcoming Newsletter.
I very much hope to see some of you there.
With kindest regards,
Sanjib

TB or Not TB?
The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted our health, economy, and way of life, bringing uncertainty and challenges that many of us never imagined. Working closely with leaders across academia and industry, and witnessing first-hand the turbulence within UK Higher Education, I have navigated some of the most unsettling times of my career.
Yet, I have always believed that resilience is forged in adversity, just as gold must endure fire to be refined, challenges often pave the way for growth and new opportunities.
In 2019, I was promoted to Full Professor, a milestone that my family in India and friends across the world celebrated with immense pride. However, in 2022, I lost my mother, and last year, I lost my father. As I prepare for my Professorial Inaugural Lecture this summer, my heart aches with the absence of my parents, whose unwavering love, guidance, and sacrifices shaped every step of my journey.
While my parents will not be there to witness this milestone, I dedicate this special day (12th June 2025) to them, my family, and all my friends, students, mentors, and colleagues who have been part of my work and life so far. Without your unwavering support, I could not have pursued this ambitious path in a foreign land that has now become my home β the UK.
I look forward to celebrating this occasion with you, whether in person or online. Your presence will make the event even more meaningful.
