Public Administration as a SUBJECT of study in the Punjabi University Patiala has a distinct identity of its own.
~To begin with, the Postgraduate classes in Public Administration were started in the Evening Institute of Postgraduate Studies, situated at M.M.Modi Degree College, Patiala in 1971. The UGC also gave sanction to the Department to start three job-oriented Post -graduate Diploma course

s, namely PG Diploma in Public Relations and Advertising, PG Diploma in Urban Development and Municipal Administration; and PG Diploma in Social Welfare Administration. Keeping in view the relevance of the subject, the University authorities shifted the Department of the Public Administration to Punjabi University campus in 1978. Since then the department is contributing significantly to the teaching and research of the discipline. and PG Diploma in Human Rights & Duties etc. etc.

However, the SUBJECT is not limited to the Dept. as many study it for appearing in competitive exams. Being inter-disciplinary in nature, it is an important part of social sciences' study and research.

Three Ph.D. Research Scholars from our dept of Public Administration, namely Sukhpal Singh, Chamkour Singh and Jatinder Singh presented their research papers on the second day of Confluence 2026 - A National Conference on the theme of Contemporary Concerns of Punjab: An Interdisciplinary Perspective organised by Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib on 19-20th March, 2026.

😊 Our one-day educational trip on March 16, 2026, included a visit to the famous Rock Garden in Chandigarh. The Rock Garden is a wonderful 40-acre sculpture park made from waste materials, founded by Nek Chand.
✨️▶️ Interestingly, Nek Chand, a government official, started building the garden in secrecy during his spare time in 1957 to self-actualize or fulfill his need to create beautiful figures from recycled ceramic, glass, and household waste. ✌️😊

😊 During our one-day educational trip to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh on March 16, 2026, where we observed the ongoing 12th Budget Session, it was an immense privilege to hear the Honourable Speaker, Sardar Kultar Singh Sandhwan, extend a warm welcome to us, leaving us feeling proud. 👏👏👏

The students of M.A. Hons. Public Administration (Part I & II) and Ph.D. Research Scholars, led by Dr. Renu, Head of the Department of Public Administration at PUP, went to a one-day educational tour to the Punjab Legislative Assembly (Punjab Vidhan Sabha) in Chandigarh on 16th March 2026, where they witnessed the live proceedings of the 12th Budget Session.
➡️🔶️🙂 It was a wonderful experience for the students beyond classroom lectures.
