5 Improvements To Become An Officer In The Armed Forces
We all know what are those 15 magical things that we see in a candidate at the Services Selection Board and enough material is available on these on the internet and elsewhere. But, there is not much information to guide the aspirants as to what traits to develop and how to develop to be successful at the Services Selection Board. In this post I intend to write about these traits and ways to develop so that you choose the correct path to success. Following are the five things that one must do to remain on course to success.
A Methodical Lifestyle
You consider any successful person in life and there is one common thing in all of them and that is a methodical lifestyle. A methodical lifestyle is one where there is a balance between work and leisure. It’s like a balanced diet where one includes protein, carbohydrate, fat, minerals, vitamins etc. Likewise in a daily course of life one must include exercise, education/work, casual reading, hobbies/interests, watching news, sleep etc. In other words how well you manage your 24 hours will decide the level of success you achieve in life. The present day youth is exactly opposite. They sleep late, get up late, do not do physical exercise, do not read newspaper/ watch TV news. Instead spend most of the time on social media chatting with friends and spending time on all kind of crap.
Develop Knowledge
All successful persons are generally well read. They spend a lot of their leisure time in reading and developing knowledge. Developing knowledge should be a way of life and not an interview related activity. I always talked about literate and educated person. An educated person is the one who not only knows what is happening in and around the world but also has his own opinion on subjects. I would suggest instead of wasting time on social media, one should use technology to keep track of the latest happenings.
Develop Strong Value System
Value system is something we all develop right through our childhood and early upbringing. This happens both voluntarily and involuntarily. It’s about the sense of right and wrong. To sight an example, we all know that violation of traffic signal is not right and yet many of us do it and this becomes a habit. The ‘Chalega’ attitude is incorrect. Over a period this becomes and involuntary habit and we tend to violate rules as a matter of fact without even feeling guilty. So be conscious of what is right and make it a habit to follow the right always. A perpetual offender trying to impress the assessor by is words, that his value system is good doesn’t make sense. He will be caught. Instead make it your habit to be good.
Develop Clean Habits
The social culture in the country is changing dramatically. Smoking, drinking, late night parties etc. have become rampant and are no more restricted to metros. These habits not only spoil health but also cost a great deal of money. While partying with friends once in a while is okay a regular habit will only waste time and money. Hence, develop clean and healthy habits and stay away from all the unwanted things.
Communication Skills
Communication skills are very important. After all you need to express your thoughts and views for anyone to assess you. If you can express well, half the battle is won. There are several candidates who may we very good abut get rejected because they have not been able to express themselves well. The main reason for very high rate of rejection during screening test is because of poor communication. Candidates just can’t speak and discuss with others in English. Hence develop English speaking and writing. Of all the things mentioned above developing communication is the easiest. All you need to do is read newspaper, watch English news and talk to friends and family members in English. This can improve your communication to a very high level within 6 months.
Hence bring in change in your life style, the sooner the better.
