just made history. And a 20-second runtime did it. has become the first Indian institution listed on the Quantum Advantage Tracker — a community-led, platform-agnostic project that provides a framework to collect, compare, and validate the results of quantum advantage demonstrations.

Here's what BITS Pilani submitted: A team led by Prof. Indrakshi Raychowdhury, alongside three BITS Goa graduate students (Fran Ilcic, Emil Mathew, Md. Osama Ali) and IBM Quantum scientists Dr Ritajit Majumdar and Dr Nathan Earnest-Noble, simulated real-time SU(2) hadron dynamics on 120 qubits of a 156-qubit IBM Quantum Heron processor.

The same computation that takes classical supercomputers up to two-and-a-half hours took the quantum computer only about 20 seconds. That's a 20-step circuit with 60,000 gates. On real quantum hardware. For a frontier problem in high energy physics, one of the hardest domains in all of science. The tracker itself is no small stage. It features contributors from 15+ global institutions.

BITS Pilani now sits among them as the first Indian institution to submit an "advantage" demonstration for review, and the first entry focused on quantum computation for particle physics. What makes this submission especially meaningful: → Open data. Reproducible circuits. Public peer review. → No black-box claims — just verifiable science. → Supported by IBM Quantum Credits awarded to the PI. This is what it looks like when academic research in India meets world-class quantum infrastructure.

The International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 was celebrated at BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus, on 21 June 2026. The event was graced by Chief Guest Col. Soumyabrata Chakraborty, Registrar, BITS Pilani, and featured a yoga session led by Ms. Priyanka Aggarwal, an experienced yoga instructor. Participants ranging in age from 8 to 60 years enthusiastically took part in various yoga practices, demonstrating great zeal and energy.

The celebration highlighted the importance of yoga in promoting physical well-being, mental wellness, and harmony across all age groups.

Axis Bank partners with BITS Pilani to establish a ₹100 crore Industry Research, Technology & Innovation Park in Hyderabad, powering India’s lab-to-market ecosystem

A 120,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art research and innovation facility, the Axis Bank–BITS Industry Research, Technology & Innovation Park, will be established at the BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus. Designed to advance research in life sciences, biopharma, healthcare, and medical devices, the park is being supported through a ₹100 crore CSR grant from Axis Bank. The initiative will serve as a catalyst for deep-tech innovation and translational research, creating a vibrant ecosystem for industry-academia collaboration, entrepreneurship, and technology commercialisation.

Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chancellor, BITS Pilani, said, “The partnership between BITS Pilani and Axis Bank is exactly the kind of forward-looking collaboration India needs to build stronger innovation systems. The Research Park will help BITS Pilani deepen its work in cutting-edge research and entrepreneurship while also contributing to solutions that can make a meaningful difference to society.”
