The School of Construction, NICMAR University, Pune, organised a half-day workshop titled “Predict, Capture & Optimise – AI in Lean Construction” on 28 October 2026 for second-year MBA-ACM students as part of the course Lean Construction Management.

The workshop was conducted by Ms. Shatakshi Dasture, Technical Solutions Specialist at VisiLean, who shared valuable industry perspectives on integrating artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and Lean Construction practices.

Drawing on her professional experience in construction technology, Building Information Modelling (BIM), collaborative planning, and digital project delivery, she provided students with insights into the evolving role of technology in enhancing construction planning, coordination, and overall project performance.

The session aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practices, equipping students with a better understanding of emerging digital solutions and their applications in construction management.

The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Nilesh Patil.

The School of Engineering, NICMAR University, Pune, organized a one-day technical workshop titled “Advancing Sustainable Construction: Materials, Technologies and Infrastructure Longevity (ASCMTI-2026)” recently, in collaboration with the Center of Excellence on Technologies for Low Carbon and Lean Construction (TLC2), IIT Madras.

The workshop brought together 151 participants, fostering knowledge exchange on sustainable construction practices and resilient infrastructure. Distinguished experts from IIT Madras - Prof. Ravindra Gettu, Prof. Manu Santhanam, and Prof. Radhakrishna G. Pillai - shared valuable insights into life cycle assessment, 3D concrete printing, corrosion control, and infrastructure durability.

Mr. Kapilesh Bhate, Director of Precast India Infrastructures, highlighted sustainable precast construction systems and their role in advancing efficient construction practices.

Faculty experts from NICMAR University, Dr. Smita Patil, Dr. Shashank B.S., Dr. Dyana Joseline, Dr. Mohammed Rihan Maaze, and Dr. Hindavi Gavali, enriched the technical discussions through sessions on sustainable contract management, nanomaterials, service life-based design, geopolymer materials, and Building Information Modelling (BIM), respectively.

Held under the patronage of Dr. Anil Agarwal, Vice-Chancellor (I/C), NICMAR University, Pune, and convened by Dr. Smita Patil, Dean, School of Engineering, the workshop reaffirmed the University's commitment to research, innovation, and academia-industry collaboration in advancing sustainable infrastructure development.

Sustainability leadership begins with “mud on the boots.”
Frameworks guide us. Policies set direction. Lasting change requires people willing to step into the field, understand practical challenges, and turn knowledge into action.
This message came alive during an insightful guest talk by Dr. Prasad Modak on “Mud on the Boots,” hosted by the School of Energy and Environment, NICMAR University, Pune.
Drawing on his sustainability journey, including his work in the glass industry dating back to 1998, Dr. Modak connected industry experience with the evolution of environmental policies and sustainability frameworks.
For our MBA students in Sustainable Energy Management and Environmental Sustainability, three lessons stood out:
* Understand ground realities before proposing solutions.
* Embed sustainability into everyday organisational decisions.
* Build a career around responsibility, practical experience, and meaningful impact.

The School of Energy and Environment, NICMAR University, Pune, organised an Industry Expert Talk on “Battery Energy Storage Systems and Applications” recently, featuring Mr. Narsimha Chary Mummedy, General Manager – Technology.
The session brought together junior and senior students from the MBA in Sustainable Energy Management (SEM) and MBA in Environmental Sustainability (ENS) programmes to explore the role of battery energy storage in renewable energy integration, peak demand management, grid stability, backup power, and electric mobility.

Key Learning Outcomes:
▪️Understanding battery storage components and their practical applications.
▪️Exploring technology selection, system sizing, and cost considerations.
▪️Recognising the importance of battery management, thermal control, and safety.
▪️Understanding lifecycle management and end-of-life planning for responsible resource use.
Coordinated by Dr. J. S. Sudarsan, the session bridged classroom learning with industry practices and enhanced students’ understanding of energy storage solutions for a reliable and sustainable energy future.
