The Electrical Engineering Department, Government Engineering College, Rajkot, organised an Expert session on “Recent Advances in Transformers: Components, Manufacturing and Practical Calculations” on 22 October 2026. Invited industry expert Mr. Mrugesh Makwana, Senior Manager, Training Division, Powertrans Pvt. Ltd., Rajkot, delivered the talk.
The session covered key transformer components, manufacturing processes and recent developments in transformer technology. Practical turns and full-load current calculations connected theoretical concepts with industrial applications. The expert also discussed career opportunities in the transformer industry, giving students an industry perspective on their technical studies.
The programme was coordinated by Hitarth Buch, under the guidance of Prof. K. B. Rathod, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department and under valuable guidance of Principal Prof. (Dr.) K. G. Maradia. The department expressed its appreciation to Mr. Makwana and Rajkot Powertrans Pvt. Ltd. for their contribution and guidance.

*🌟 Representing GEC Rajkot at Manak Mahotsav 2026 🌟*

It was an honour for *Prof. (Dr.) D. J. Marsoniya* from Mechanical Department Government Engineering College (GEC), Rajkot to deliver an expert talk as a Guest Speaker at the Manak Mahotsav (World Standards Day 2026 celebrations), organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Rajkot Branch Office at Phoenix Resort, Rajkot.

This year’s theme focused on UN Sustainable Development Goal 7: “Affordable and Clean Energy” — a vital subject bridging technical innovation, standardisation, and sustainable engineering solutions.

The impressive gathering of around 270 participants — including industrial experts, delegates, quality engineers, and decision-makers from across sectors attended the session.

Mechanical Engineering Department, Government Engineering college Rajkot organised industrial visit of Orbit Bearings India Pvt. Ltd.. Metoda GIDC, Rajkot on 10-10-2026. Students from the 7th semesters of the Mechanicall Engineering Department participated in the visit. The visit was coordinated by Dr. J K Dadhaniya and Prof. K.R.Der.
Orbit Bearings was established in 1990 in Rajkot, Gujarat, India as a family owned business. Orbit is a manufacturer of Taper and Cylindrical Roller Bearings for Automotive & Industrial Applications for OEM Customers manufacturing Trucks, Truck Trailers, Agriculture Tractors, Transmissions, Engines, Compressors, and Industrial Gearboxes etc.
An industrial visit is an important part of engineering education because it provides students with practical knowledge of industrial operations, manufacturing technologies, automation systems, and quality control procedures. The industrial visit was organized to understand the manufacturing of bearings using advanced machinery and automated production systems.
Bearings are essential mechanical components used to support rotating shafts, reduce friction, carry loads, and ensure smooth operation of machines. They are widely used in automobiles, industrial machinery, electric motors, pumps, agricultural equipment, and many other engineering applications.
The visit helped students understand how modern manufacturing industries use automation, computer-controlled machines, material handling systems, and inspection equipment to improve productivity, accuracy, consistency, and product quality.

The Instrumentation and Control Engineering Department of Government Engineering College, Rajkot, organized an industrial visit to Echjay Industries Private Limited, Rajkot, on 10th October 2026.

The visit provided students with valuable exposure to advanced industrial technologies and manufacturing practices, particularly in the production of high-quality steel forgings and precision-machined components for critical automotive and non-automotive applications. The students gained insights into various forging technologies, including hot, warm, cold, and ring rolling processes, as well as precision machining, integrated engineering infrastructure, and quality control practices. This experience helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world industrial applications.

Mr. Kamlesh Dharajiya, HR Manager at Echjay Industries Private Limited, provided a comprehensive demonstration of the company's operations and machining processes. His explanation enhanced the students' practical understanding of modern manufacturing techniques and industrial practices.

Students from the 5th and 7th semesters of the Instrumentation and Control Engineering Department participated in the visit. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Prakash Pithadiya and Prof. D. S. Vyas.

Overall, the industrial visit was an informative and enriching experience, offering students valuable practical insights into modern manufacturing technologies and highlighting the importance of instrumentation and control engineering in industrial applications.

Government Engineering College, Rajkot, in collaboration with Swadeshi Jagaran Manch and Swavlambi Bharat Abhiyan, successfully organized programme on “Engineer to Entrepreneur” as part of Vikas Saptah 2026 on 13 October 2026 at Dr. Sarojini Naidu Auditorium of institute.
The programme was graced by three distinguished expert speakers: Shri Gaurav Kalola, Coordinator, District Industries Centre (DIC), Government of Gujarat; Shri Chandni Shah, Mahila Pramukh, Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, Rajkot; and Shri Yash Jasani, Expert Speaker, Swavlambi Bharat Abhiyan.
Shri Gaurav Kalola delivered an informative session on the “Viksit Gujarat Industrial Policy 2026,” highlighting industrial development initiatives, government support, and opportunities available for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Shri Chandni Shah emphasized the importance of adopting indigenous products and promoting local enterprises through the inspiring message of “Swadeshi Apnao – Vocal for Local.”
Shri Yash Jasani motivated students to transform their innovative ideas into successful entrepreneurial ventures. Through numerous real-life examples and inspiring success stories, he encouraged young engineers to become job creators rather than merely job seekers.
The programme was jointly coordinated by the ED Cell and SSIP Cell, led by Dr. R. K. Shukla and Dr. N. B. Gohil, under the valuable mentorship of Dr. S. M. Shah, SSIP Mentor, and Dr. J. J. Goswami, ED Cell Mentor.
The event was organized under the able guidance and patronage of Prof. (Dr.) K. G. Maradia, Principal, Government Engineering College, Rajkot, whose continuous encouragement has been instrumental in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship within the institute.

Industrial Visit to Jyoti CNC Automation Limited, Metoda, Rajkot

An industrial visit was organized for Semester V Mechanical Engineering students to Jyoti CNC Automation Limited, Metoda, Rajkot, on 08 October 2026, under the subject Quality and Reliability Engineering (QRE), under the guidance of Prof. L. J. Faldu. The main objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to modern manufacturing processes, CNC machine tools, industrial automation, quality control and reliability engineering. During the visit, students gained an understanding of CNC machining operations, precision manufacturing, machine assembly, inspection methods, dimensional accuracy, preventive maintenance and the importance of maintaining product quality and equipment reliability. The visit helped students relate theoretical concepts studied in the classroom to their practical applications in industry.

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Government Engineering College, Rajkot successfully organized the PSIM Power Tech Showcase – Explore • Simulate • Innovate on 05 October 2026.

Students showcased innovative PSIM-based projects including Four-Quadrant DC Motor Drive for EV applications, Power Converters, Motor Speed Control using PWM, and several other power electronics simulations. 🔋⚙️

The projects were evaluated by Dr. Charmy Changela, HoD (EC), VVP Engineering college,Rajkot whose expert feedback and guidance greatly encouraged the students. 🏆 The winning team was felicitated with gifts for their outstanding performance.

The event was coordinated by Dr. P. R. Pandya and Prof. R. S. Senjaliya, under the guidance of HoD Prof. S. B. Parmar Sir and Principal Prof. (Dr.) K. G. Maradia Sir.

The Department of Electrical Engineering, Government Engineering College, Rajkot organized a One-Day Workshop on Energy Conservation & Sustainable Technologies on 3 October 2026.

The workshop covered topics like energy conservation, efficient electrical utilities, electricity bills, electrical safety, thermal utilities, renewable energy, solar energy and EV battery systems, followed by a hands on practical session with the IITGN expert team.

The programme was held under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) K. G. Maradia, coordinated by Prof. R. D. Bhagiya under the guidance of HoD Electrical - Prof. K. B. Rathod. 100+ Electrical and Mechanical Engineering students and 10+ faculty members from both the departments have actively participated in the event.
