Online Youth Parliament on “Drug: The Silent Killer” Organized for School of Humanities and Languages

The Yuva Connect Committee organized an Online Youth Parliament on the theme “Drug: The Silent Killer” for the students of the School of Humanities and Languages with the objective of creating awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encouraging youth to play an active role in building a drug-free society.

The programme was conducted through online mode and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Pervez Alam, who highlighted the importance of creating awareness among young people about the devastating consequences of drug abuse and emphasized the role of educational institutions in promoting a healthy and responsible lifestyle.

Dr. Tanveer Ahmed served as the Nodal Officer for the programme and successfully coordinated the event. The Youth Parliament provided a platform for students to engage in meaningful discussions on the causes, consequences, and prevention of substance abuse. Participants shared their views and suggested various measures to curb the growing menace of drugs in society.

Faculty members, students, and members of the Yuva Connect Committee actively participated in the deliberations and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting a drug-free environment within society.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Abdul Hannan Khan, CTO, NCC who appreciated the active participation of students and faculty members. He encouraged the youth to become ambassadors of awareness and contribute towards building a healthier and drug-free society.

The online Youth Parliament successfully conveyed the message that drug abuse is a silent killer and that awareness, vigilance, and collective action are essential to safeguard the future of the younger generation.

BGSBU Celebrates International Yoga Day with Enthusiastic Participation

Rajouri, June 21: Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, celebrated the International Day of Yoga 2026 with great enthusiasm and fervour at the University Football Ground. The programme witnessed active participation from teaching and non-teaching staff, students, research scholars, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and several students from the University of Delhi.

The event was jointly organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit, National Cadet Corps (NCC) Unit, and the Yoga and Meditation Cell of the University. The yoga session was conducted under the expert guidance of Shri R. C. Bhat, who led the participants through various yoga asanas, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques aimed at promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and holistic health.

On the occasion, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, emphasized the significance of yoga in contemporary life. He stated that yoga is India's invaluable gift to humanity and serves as a powerful means to achieve harmony between body, mind, and spirit. He encouraged students and staff to embrace yoga as a way of life and incorporate its principles into their daily routines to achieve holistic well-being and lead healthier, more productive lives.

In his message, Shri Ravi Kumar Sihag, IAS, Registrar, highlighted the importance of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental resilience, and a healthy lifestyle. He noted that educational institutions must encourage wellness-oriented practices among youth and reaffirmed BGSBU's commitment to fostering a healthy and vibrant campus environment. He urged members of the university community to make yoga a regular part of their lives.


Participants enthusiastically took part in the yoga session and appreciated the University's efforts to promote health and well-being through such initiatives. The programme concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of yoga in fostering physical fitness, mental well-being, and a balanced lifestyle.

Further enriching the celebrations, the Yoga and Meditation Cell of BGSBU organized an online quiz competition on the history, philosophy, and health benefits of yoga. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, research scholars, and staff members, promoting greater awareness and understanding of yoga.

*BGSBU organizes Plantation Drive “Ek Ped, Nashey Ke Viruddh”*

Rajouri, June 19, 2026: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan (NMJKA), the Arboriculture & Landscaping Section of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, organized a plantation drive titled “Ek Ped, Nashey Ke Viruddh” on the university campus today.

The plantation drive was led by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, and the Registrar, Sh. Ravi Kumar Sihag, who actively participated in the programme and planted saplings alongside faculty members, officers and staff of the University

On the occasion Prof. Jawaid Iqbal emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and collective social responsibility. He highlighted that planting trees is a powerful symbol of nurturing life, promoting sustainability, and building a healthy society free from the menace of drug abuse. He called upon the youth to actively support the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan and become ambassadors of positive change.

Registrar Sh. Ravi Kumar Sihag appreciated the initiative and stressed the need for sustained awareness campaigns to educate young people about the harmful effects of substance abuse while encouraging environmentally responsible behaviour.

Notably, the University has been meticulously conducting regular activities under the 100- day Nasha Mukht Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan (NMJKA) by involving all Departments, Students, faculty, staff , civil society and other stakeholders.

Nursing College, Rajouri, organized an Online Youth Parliament on the theme “Drugs: The Silent Killer” with the objective of sensitizing students and youth about the alarming rise of drug abuse and its far-reaching social, psychological, and health consequences.

The programme was coordinated by Ms. Vijayshree V. Nair, Assistant Professor and Nodal Officer of today event, who emphasized the importance of youth engagement in addressing critical societal challenges and fostering a drug-free environment.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Pervez Alam, Chief Proctor, who highlighted the urgent need for awareness, prevention, and collective responsibility in combating the menace of drug addiction. He encouraged students to act as responsible citizens and contribute actively towards building a healthy and progressive society.

The online Youth Parliament witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, and faculty members of the Nursing College. Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), under the aegis of the Yuva Connect Programme Committee, successfully hosted an online Youth Parliament focused on the theme “Drug Abuse: A Silent Killer”. Organized under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, the event signifies the second initiative in the campaign's second phase, which aims to drive community engagement and raise widespread awareness. Through this program, BGSBU reaffirmed its institutional commitment to fostering a healthy, drug-free society. The youth parliament featured structured debates where participating students from various academic departments were divided into ruling and opposition parties, a format designed to strengthen critical thinking and democratic values.
The session was officially presided over by Ms. Atiqah Toseef, who served as the Speaker and ensured strict discipline and decorum throughout the proceedings. Dr. M. A. Hannan Khan, Nodal Officer of the event and Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology, welcomed the attendees and set the context for the session.
Guest speaker Dr. Pervez Alam, Chief Proctor and Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, delivered an insightful address detailing the profound social and psychological ramifications of drug addiction. BGSBU Intensifies Anti-Drug Campaign under NMJKA; Awareness Programme Held at Himalayan Degree College Rajouri

Rajouri, June 10, 2026: Continuing its commitment towards creating awareness against substance abuse under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan (NMJKA), the Health Centre of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri organized a Drug Abuse Awareness Programme at Himalayan Degree College, Rajouri on June 10, 2026. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 100 students and staff members of the college.

The programme was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Zaheer Abbas, Incharge Health Centre, BGSBU, who delivered a comprehensive lecture on the harmful effects of drug abuse, the growing challenges posed by substance dependence among youth, and the collective role of educational institutions and society in combating the menace. He urged students to make informed life choices and actively contribute to the vision of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.

During his address, Dr. Zaheer Abbas also spoke extensively on stress management, highlighting it as a crucial protective factor against substance use. He explained that unmanaged stress, anxiety, academic pressure, and social challenges often increase vulnerability to substance abuse among young people. Emphasizing healthy coping mechanisms, he encouraged students to adopt positive strategies such as regular physical activity, mindfulness practices, constructive social engagement, effective time management, and seeking professional support whenever required. He stressed that building resilience and emotional well-being can significantly reduce the risk of substance dependence and contribute to a healthier lifestyle.

Mr. Mujeeb, Pharmacist, Health Centre, BGSBU, assisted in organizing and managing the event and facilitated the awareness activities conducted during the programme.

The session was highly interactive, with students engaging in discussions on the social, psychological, and health-related consequences of drug abuse. Participants also expressed their commitment to spreading awareness among their peers and communities.

The programme forms part of a series of outreach initiatives being undertaken by the Health Centre, BGSBU, under the NMJKA campaign. During the past week, the Health Centre has conducted awareness and outreach programmes at various community locations across Rajouri district, reaching a large number of students and members of the public. These initiatives reflect the University's sustained efforts to promote health awareness and social responsibility beyond the campus.

Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, appreciated the efforts of the Health Centre in actively carrying forward the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan. He emphasized that educational institutions have a vital role in shaping responsible citizens and safeguarding youth from the dangers of substance abuse. He called for sustained awareness programmes and community participation to effectively address the challenge.

At the conclusion of the programme, Dr. Zaheer Abbas thanked the management, in particular, Shri Sheharya Wani faculty, staff, and students of Himalayan Degree College, Rajouri for their cooperation, hospitality, and active participation, which contributed significantly to the success of the event.
