The Department is committed to excellence in imparting need-based education to ready the
students for media industry. The curriculum of two-year master's degree in Mass Communication is designed to develop advanced knowledge in the field of media
studies and to strengthen their communication skills. The Department for Mass Communication has an intake capacity of 40 students per year.

Studio Visit!
A two-member delegation from the Department of Higher Education, Government of Jharkhand, visited the Multimedia Studio to learn about the facilities required for online learning and digital content creation at the educational institution. The team, consisting of Mr Kumar Chandan, General Manager, Jharkhand Faculty Development Academy (JFDA), and Mr Anupam Upadhyay, said that the Government of Jharkhand plans to set up digital infrastructure in all state universities. On this occasion, Prof. Dev Vrat Singh, Dean & Head, explained the nuances of the studio infrastructure and promised full support in creating digital infrastructure across the state. Associate Professors Dr Amrendra Kumar and Dr Sudarshan Yadav, along with Mr Ajaenga Pamei, STA and Mr Ram Niwas Suthar, TA, were also present during the visit.

World Photography Day Celebrations!
On World Photography Day, the Department of Mass Communication organised a special lecture on photojournalism and visual storytelling. The Vice-Chancellor Sarang Medhekar and senior photojournalist Sandeep Nag of Dainik Bhaskar were the chief guests at the event.
Sharing his experiences with the students, Mr Sandeep Nag highlighted the importance of observation, choosing the right frame, sensitivity, and visual storytelling in photojournalism. The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the need for organising such programmes regularly. Prof. Dev Vrat Singh, Dean & Head, described photography not merely as a technical skill but also as an art of creativity and storytelling.

The department also organised a photography exhibition, showcasing photographs captured by students. The guests, faculty members, and students visited the exhibition and shared their feedback and observations.

Faculty members, including Dr Amarendra Kumar, Dr Rajesh Kumar, Dr Sudarshan Yadav, Dr Rashmi Verma, Dr Amrit Kumar, and Technical Staff Mr Ajenga Pamei and Mr Ram Niwas Suthar, along with students and faculty members from various departments, were also present at the programme.

On 19th August, a Photo Exhibition was organised for World Photography Day. The exhibition displayed the work of media students. The Board of Studies met on 17th August 2026 to discuss and approve the new curriculum. Members suggested several other ideas to expand activities in the Department. Prof. Biswajit Das, Former Director, CCMG, Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi, joined online, and Prof. Anurag Dave, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Mr Vinoy Bhushan, Corporate Editor, Prabhat Khabar, Ranchi, Prof. Bhagwan Singh, DBS, CUJ and Dr Upendra Kumar, DoH, CUJ, joined offline. From the Department, Prof. Dev Vrat Singh, Dr Amrendra Kumar, Dr Sudarshan Yadav and Dr Rashmi Verma were also present. Recently, Prof. Dev Vrat Singh, Dean & Head of the Department, was invited as a resource person in a three-day National Seminar -cum-Workshop on 'Journalism at Grassroots' organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Central University of Odisha, Koraput. The programme was attended by the local media persons and media students.
