The original seven wastes (Muda) was developed by Taiichi Ohno, the Chief Engineer at Toyota, as part of the Toyota Production System (TPS). The seven wastes of manufacturing can be difficult to remember, but the acronym TIMWOOD makes it easy. Each letter in the acronym represents one of seven wastes: The seven wastes are Transportation, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Overproduction, Overprocessing and Defects.
To create a seamless flow of value that goes all the way to the customer without interruption, waste needs to be reduced. This brings us to an enemy that causes waste in organizational processes.
