Martin Luther Christian University Martin Luther Christian University was created in July 2005, by an Act of the Legislative Assembly of the government of Meghalaya.

As per the Act No. 11 of 2005 of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya, Martin Luther Christian University hereby submits the Seventh Annual Report for the Academic Session of August 1, 2012 to July 31, 2013. The Report has been prepared by the Board of Management and has been approved by the Board of Governors. A copy of the same is submitted to the Visitor of the University and Government of Meg

halaya. The Seventh Annual Report of Martin Luther Christian University reflects the Administrative Working of University, the progress report of the each academic department located in Shillong, Jowai, Nongtalang and Tura, and the audited statement s of the university. The Annual Report is divided into ten sections v.i.z the Vision and Mission, Governance, Administration and Committees, Progress of the Academic Departments, Co Curricular activities and Faculty Development Programmes, Non Academic staff, Projects, Affiliated Institutions and Audited Statements

The First Vice Chancellors’ Colloquium Explores Implementation of NEP 2020

Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong, is set to host the First Vice Chancellors’ Colloquium, in which all the private universities in Meghalaya will participate. The theme of the colloquium is the “Implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020: A Catalyst for Transformation of Higher Education”. The event was held on November 8, 2023, at the MLCU Umsawli, Shillong.

The Education Minister of Meghalaya, Mr. Rakkam A Sangma, will attend the Vice-Chancellor’s Colloquium as the Chief Guest.

The objectives of the colloquium are to, emphasize the need to have a comprehensive understanding of the NEP 2020 and its implementation in higher education institutions. The colloquium also aims to articulate the goals and strategies for the transformation of higher education in India. The universities will share their best practices for the success of NEP 2020, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement. It will enhance collaborations among institutions, and encourage a collective effort towards educational excellence.

The participating universities include the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University (ICFAI), University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), C. Motilal Jawaharlal University (CMJ), North East Adventist University (NEAU), Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), MIT University, and the host Martin Luther Christian University

MLCU University Research Programme 📚🔬 organized by the Department of Doctoral Studies & Research 🎓

With the aim to inculcate research skills 🧠💡, the Department of Doctoral Studies & Research 🏛️, Martin Luther Christian University 🎓 as part of its annual event 🗓️ organized a two-day event on different research-based activities on August 24 – 25, 2023. Students from various departments of the university 🎈 participated in these activities which included quiz competition 🏆, literature hunt 📖🔍, data interpretation 📊, out of the box thinking 🧩, and research poster competition 📑 presentation.

The program culminated on August 25, 2023 🗓️, with Dr. Eros V Kharshiing 🎓, Associate Professor, St. Edmunds College and member of the Doctoral Committee MLCU, Shillong, as the Chief Guest 🎉 at the valedictory function where he highlighted the importance of research being deeply rooted in the concerns of the local community 🌍. He emphasized that such a focus allows research to address challenges effectively by offering nuanced understanding 🤔🔍, localized insights 📍🔍, and innovative approaches 🚀. He further stressed how innovation in research has the potential to revolutionize various aspects of life, fostering new ways of living, working, and interacting 👥💼🌱.
The chief guest emphasized that researchers bear a substantial responsibility 💪. Research has the power to influence policies 📜, guide decisions 🛤️, and shape lives 🌟.

His words of wisdom 💬🌟 have set the tone for the event and he provided valuable insights to the students who took part in the event 🎉.
Prizes 🏅🏆 were also awarded to the winners of the various activities held during the two-day event. The event was attended by the Chancellor 👑, Deans 🎓, faculty 👨‍🏫👩‍🏫, and students 🎓.

🌍✨ Celebrating Indigenous Cultures and Empowering Youth! 🌿🎶

On the occasion of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) embraced vibrant traditions and the spirit of change. 🌺🥁

Joined by the Faculty of Arts and Culture, the Department of Tourism and Travel Management, and the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, MLCU honored this day with an event that showcased Indigenous essence.

🎤🎸 Renowned musician Mr. Rudy Wahlang, founder of the Blues Band - Soulmate, graced the occasion as chief guest, promoting peace and unity.

🍛🥗 The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics showcased North-Eastern cuisines. A food sale cm exhibition highlighted indigenous slow food and traditional snacks.

🎓🏫🔧 MLCU organises Teaching for Learning Workshop! 📚🎉

The Academics Office, Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) organized a workshop for its faculty on Teaching for Learning on Instructional Design, facilitated by Dr. Gideon Arulmani, Director, The Promise Foundation, Bangalore on August 4, 2023. 🗓️🎓

The workshop was necessitated by the changes in the academic milieu and paradigm shift in the teaching-learning processes. 🔄🌱 The workshop aimed at enabling the university’s faculty with innovative strategies that connect students’ learning outcomes to effective learning activities. 🚀🎯

It emphasized the importance of matching learning outcomes with practical learning activities, exploring learner-centered instructional methods, and the development of teaching-learning materials such as textbooks, flip charts, flashcards, and worksheets. 📚✏️📝

The workshop also highlighted the significance of the hybrid approach to teaching and learning. 💻👥

An outcome of the day’s workshop was the development of lesson plans and teaching aids. 📝🎒 As a follow-up of this workshop, an exhibition of teaching aids and toolkits to be developed by the faculty will be held in the coming months. 🛠️👩‍🏫🎨

📚🎉 We are excited to unveil Two new books tomorrow, 26th July 2023, titled, "Building Bridges for Wellness through Counselling and Psychotherapy" and "Relational Gestalt Therapy in India: A Guide to Group Practice".

The book, "Relational Gestalt Therapy in India: A Guide to Group Practice", is authored by Dr. Vanaja Ammanath and published by Routledge. As for the book, "Building Bridges for Wellness through Counselling and Psychotherapy," it is published by MLCU Press as a 2nd edition in collaboration with Sampurna Montfort College who published the 1st edition.

With the launch of these 2 books, we hope to continue to engage and expand our understanding of mental health and well-being from different perspectives and cultural understandings.

‘Introduction of Concepts and Skills for the Promotion of Emotional Well-being’ an Advanced skills in Counselling Workshop with Dr Gideon Organised by the Office of the Dean of Students, this three-day was held from March 29-31, 2023, in Martin Luther Christian University. The workshop focused on ‘Introduction to Concepts and Skills for the Promotion of Emotional Well-being’ and was facilitated by Dr Gideon, Director of The Promise Foundation, Bangalore.

The workshop was attended by 50 participants, including The University’s Registrar, Deans and Director, Head of Departments, Faculty and Students.

The first day of the workshop began with the different factors that influence behavior and Personality. He emphasized the importance of understanding the the individual behind the behavior.

On the second day, Dr Gideon provided an in-depth introduction to various adjustments in our lives and how to cope. He discussed about the process of human development and identity formation in adolescence.

The final day of the workshop focused on coping for effective counselling and Views on normality. After the workshop, a group photo was taken. The workshop was highly interactive and engaging, with participants actively participating in discussions and activities. Participants found the workshop to be very informative, insightful and valuable in enhancing their counselling skills.

In conclusion, the workshop on ‘Introduction to Concepts and Skills for the Promotion of Emotional Well-being’ was a success, and the participants left with a deeper understanding of the concepts and skills required for effective counselling. The workshop was well-organised and delivered, and the facilitator, Dr Gideon, was exceptional.

🏥 The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Department of Allied Health Sciences, Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong conducted a one-day health camp on the 24th of March, 2023 at Lyniong village which is under the Mawphlang Block. The population size of the villages is 500 with around 100 households.

👥 Over 187 people registered and benefitted from the camp. The students from the department of Nutrition and Dietetics assess the nutritional status of the people and conduct a survey on the dietary intake of women. The students from the department of Allied Health Sciences checked the vital signs such as the pulse, body temperature, oxygen level and blood pressure. A few people were referred by Medical doctors for on spot laboratory tests like Hemoglobin estimation, Blood glucose level, urine analysis and malaria which was followed by free medicines.

🩺 Most common ailments investigated in this camp were upper respiratory infections like rhinitis, cough and common cold, digestive tract ailments, poor appetite, low dental care, and what seems to lack in the people was poor sanitation and personal hygiene.

👨‍🎓 The students who were involved in the health camp are from the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology, Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant, Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Technology, Bachelor of Science in Surgical and Operation Theatre, Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Nutrition, and the Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics.

💪 This health camp not only benefitted the people but it benefitted the students as they were able to learn about different ailments prevalent in communities. The medical doctors who assisted at the camp were Dr. M.Sutnga from Nongspung PHC and Dr. E.Kharkongor from Ganesh Das Hospital.
