In 2020, the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies established at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. This academic discipline has been engaged in teaching and research pursuit, to provide academic studies in the field of national security and strategic areas, promoting military education along with a culture of research amongst students from any background. The approach to the areas of stu

dy is interdisciplinary which includes; strategic thought, international relations, national security, theory and practice of war, military history, war studies, defence economics, science and technology, military sociology and psychology, international law, conflict resolution, and peace studies and many other domains are explored in this discipline. The students from different disciplines such as social sciences, humanities, commerce, and even sciences opt for this course for their academic excellence and bright career opportunities. During this course, students get exposure to interact with experts and resource persons through seminars, conferences, lectures, and workshops, organised by the department and other research institutes. The students also explore the opportunity to visit various research organisations, think tanks, institutes, military establishments, historical places, and war museums.

“Multi Domain Operations (MDO): Preparing for Risks in the Future MDO Environment” and
“China & PLA – Geo-strategic and Geo-political Perspective.”

We were honoured to host Maj. Gen. Manjeet Mokha, SM, VSM (Indian Army), who delivered an extremely insightful and thought-provoking session.
The lecture enriched students with deeper understanding of evolving strategic challenges and future operational frameworks.

In a prestigious ceremony, Wing Commander Attal Singh Sekhon from IAF had the honour of commanding the Prime Minister's Guard of Honour at the Red Fort on India's 79th Independence Day. This esteemed assignment is a testament to his exceptional Drill standards packed with high order of leadership, discipline, and dedication to duty.

Notably, the officer was a NCC Cadet from P,H,HP&C Dte.

The officer also has unparalleled achievement of Commanding IAF Republic Day Marching Contingent in 2017 & 18.
