On the auspicious occasion of Saka Dawa, when it is said that the effects of positive actions are multiplied many times, we are pleased to offer the opportunity to send offerings and dedications to Jonang Takten Phuntsok Choeling monastery, Shimla, India, in support of the month-long ‘Avalokiteshvara Ritual and Mani Recitation’ from May 17th to June 15th, 2026, and the ‘Annual Nine-Deity Kalachakra Drupchod’ from May 27th to 31st, 2026. You are cordially invited to participate. Gompa member-supporters can send offerings, together with dedications, at any time up until June 15th, 2026.
The Event:
Saka Dawa commemorates the holiest and most sacred days in Tibetan Buddhism. Falling in the fourth month of the Tibetan calendar, the special activities during Saka Dawa culminate on the full moon of the 15th lunar day, which this year falls on May 31st, 2026. This time is associated with three major events in the life of Buddha Shakyamuni — his birth, enlightenment, and mahaparinirvana.
During the month of Saka Dawa, the entire monk assembly gathers together each day to perform Avalokiteshvara rituals and recite the six-syllable heart mantra of Avalokiteshvara (the embodiment of the compassion of all the buddhas).
The monastery will also perform its annual ‘Nine-Deity Kalachakra Drupchod’ for five days during this sacred month. This Drupchod is a complex Vajrayana practice based on the Kalachakra Ta**ra. In this Drupchod, practitioners invoke and meditate on the nine deities of the Kalachakra mandala, which represent various aspects of enlightened awareness. This Drupchod generates profound benefits, including the purification of negative karma, the accumulation of merit for spiritual growth, transformation towards enlightened awareness, protection from obstacles, healing physically, emotionally, and spiritually, and the promotion of global peace, harmony, and understanding.
