5) MICRO-FICTION- the next big thing in the realm of writing! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is –creativity in brevity.
Pen down a 55 word story, complete with characters and a plot involving conflict, dilemma or situational occurrences which is resolved by the time the story ends. Mind you, no cliff-hangers! Leave nothing up to us unimaginative folks.
And that’s not all. You’re done with your story; now compress its essence into a haiku, a 3 line poem of 17 syllables. Haikus follow a syllable distribution of –
Line 1: 5 syllables
Line 2: 7 syllables
Line 3: 5 syllables
They needn’t necessarily rhyme, what’s free verse for, after all? But we insist that you comply with the above format. Simple, isn’t it? Hakuna-Matata!
RULES
1. Single participation.
2. Even though we’re going to standby with considerable stock, please preferably come with your own pens. Sheets will be provided.
3. Time allotted, ideally, is 1 hour. It may be extended, if we see fit..
4. Topics shall be divulged on the spot.
5. 55 words. Period. Not a word more, not a word less. Failure to adhere to it shall result in disqualification. Remember, we’ll be counting.
6. Cliff-hanger ending would trigger disqualification.
7. Non compliance with haiku format shall also result in disqualification.
