Established in 1986, the Government Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar emerged as the first technical Institute in J&K state catering exclusively to women, thereby ushering them into an era of technology and creativity at the brink of the new millennium. III, World Bank Assisted project, the institution has achieved major break throughs in areas like quality improvement, augmentation of infra-structu

re, curriculum development, staff development, network-ing with user and other organisations etc. The Polytechnic has received
the ‘Best Polytechnic Award-2005’, having been adjudged as the most outstanding polytechnic in North India by the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh. This is a due recognition of our achievements but also a sure reminder that there are more heights of excellence to be strived for. MANAGEMENT:
The institution is administered by the Directorate of Technical Education, Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir. The J&K Board of Technical Education, lays down curricula, conducts examinations and awards diplomas. ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES:
The main focus of academic activities is the full time, regular three years diploma in Engineering, Technology and other professional courses. Besides regular diploma programs, the Polytechnic offers short-term certificate courses under Community Development, Vocational Education and the Continuing Education Programmes. The Polytechnic strives for the production of employable engineers, technicians and prospective entrepreneurs for industry, business and the community in general. DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES OFFERED:

Eligibility:
The entry qualification for the above mentioned courses is matriculation with minimum of 35% marks for open merit and reserved categories, Except Medical Lab Technology which has 10+2 with Medical. Mode of selection:
The selection to these courses is made by Board of Technical Education J&K

Course fee:
Day scholars Rs.2130 Hostellers Rs.2930 per annum

Faculty/Support staff:
The faculty and the support staff have sound professional back-ground. Need based initial skill and professional develop-ment programmes for faculty and staff are being conducted from time to time, in and outside the state. Curriculum:
The curriculum is revised periodically keeping in view the fast changing techno-economic scenario. Non-formal courses;
These non-formal courses aim at part time skill development training in basic and advanced courses, especially tailor made for target groups as envisaged from time to time. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT THROUGH POLYTECHNICS:

Sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource Develop-ment (MHRD), Government of India, this scheme includes Skill Development Programmes, Transfer of Technology and provides technical support services to rural masses, especially for women, STs/RBAs, minorities, school drop outs, physically handicapped
and victims of natural disasters through Community Outreach Programs. The courses offered at present are:

The entry qualification varies from course to course and the duration is from three to six months. Some of these courses are conducted at the main centre (Polytechnic) while others are conducted at extension centers in different districts. Continuing Education Programme:

The technician education and training system under Continuing Education Programme is able to meet the enormous demands to train and retrain working personnel quickly in order to keep pace with the rapidly changing world of work. Suitable continuing education programmes are being run for different target groups. These courses are open to all candidates with no restrictions on age. Details of fees, eligibility and schedule vary from course to course. As add-ons these courses enhance the employability of the trainees. INFRASTRUCTURE

The Polytechnic:
The campus is spread over a spacious area of about twelve acres of land. Under the Tech Edu-III project, academic blocks, hostel, staff quarters have been constructed. Main computer Centre

The institution has a well equipped computer centre with about eighty odd Pentium IV systems in addition to the latest softwares. The computer centre besides catering to the needs of regular three year programmes, conducts various short term specialized courses. There are three departmental computer centres,
as well; these are the Modern Office Practice Computer Lab, the CAD Lab and the Community Polytechnic Lab. An internet browsing centre is being set up. The various departments of the institution are linked through LAN, making the flow of information and its dissemination effective and easy. The computer centre has a round the clock internet accessibility through the STPI’s 256Kbps microwave link. A VSAT (EduSat) facility for inter-institutional link up at the state and national level has been set up. Machinery & Equipment

All departmental labs and workshops have been modernized with latest machinery and equipment. We are proud to be among the best developed technical institutes of the country. Hostel/Residences

The new hostel has been erected within the campus under Tech Edu-III, World Bank assisted project, which accommodates 150 students. The hostel is proposed to be linked with the Central Learning Resource Centre for providing the students round the clock access to the learning resources and other indoor facilities. Appropriate residential facilities for faculty and staff are in place. Library

The polytechnic has a reasonably good library. It has recent editions of books, journals and other resources needed by a student for accessing the best material relevant to her field. More support facilities for students and faculty are being created by procuring and developing print and non-
print instructional materials besides increasing the number of reference, text and other books. Library automation is being undertaken at the moment. LRUC (Learning Resource Utilization Centre)

This centre has been set up with the aim of pro-viding the latest tools in teaching-learning process thereby augmenting and strengthening the conventional methods of teaching. The centre has procured the necessary equipment and the learning resources in the form of CD’s, video and audio cassettes and other simulation software. Training and Placement Cell

Under the Tech Edu-III assisted project, the institute has established the Training and Place-ment Cell to provide the industrial training and placement services to the students. The cell successfully trains the students in various indus-tries and organizations through Industry Institute interaction initiative. A regular activity of this cell is to arrange extension lectures from the experts. Through this cell majority of the pass-out students are placed in regular/part time apprenticeship modules in various industries/organizations in and outside the J&K State. Networking
Through networking with organizations of repute, the students are placed in actual work situations for long duration of three months to one year. At present we have networking with SKIMS Medical College Srinagar, Government Press Srinagar, Alliance Infotech (CADD Center), Software Technology Park of India (STPI) and Indian Institute of Carpet Technology, Srinagar. BEYOND CLASSROOMS
Co-Curricular/Extra Co-curricular Activities
The students are actively involved in the activities conducted every week. These activities aim at all round development of the students. These include developing soft-skills and attitudes through debates, seminars, workshops, cultural programs, trekking, adventure camps, mountaineering, river crossing, paragliding and other such activities. Students actively participate in NCC and NSS activities. Various NGOs from the J & K State and outside lend support to the institution for undertaking such activities.

Srinagar October 15, 2025 A Self Learning Event 2025 was successfully organized at Government Women’s Polytechnic College, Srinagar by the Department of Office Management & Computer Applications on the theme “Explore, Learn, Showcase.”

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members across all departments. Students of Office Management & Computer Applications showcased their creativity and technical skills through a variety of innovative stalls, projects, and live demonstrations, reflecting their learning outcomes and practical application of knowledge.

Speaking on the occasion, the Principal Government Women's Polytechnic College Srinagar, Er. Imtiaz Ahmad Shaw, appreciated the efforts of the department for providing such a vibrant platform that encourages experiential learning, innovation, and collaboration among students. Srinagar- The two-day “Udyam Yuva Festival” aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and innovation among students, successfully concluded today at the Government Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar.

The event was organized under the visionary “Mission YUVA” project of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, aimed to foster entrepreneurship, innovation, and holistic development among the youth. The valedictory ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, marking a fitting end to the vibrant event.

Principal of the college, Er. Imtiaz Ahmad Shaw, presented the welcome address and shed light on the imperative need for organizing such events, followed by lamp lighting and cultural program by students of Government Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar.

Rifat Aftab Qureshi (KAS), Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Srinagar, presided over the inaugural Ceremony as the Chief Guest.

In her address, the Chief Guest, Rifat Aftab Qureshi (KAS), lauded the initiative and emphasized the critical importance of students excelling beyond their academic curricula. She stressed the need for continuously enhancing skills to remain competitive and employable in diverse professional spheres. Smt. Qureshi particularly highlighted the significance of instilling an entrepreneurial mindset in young women, encouraging them to become job creators rather than job seekers, thereby contributing directly to the economic development of the region. She also distributed cash prizes along with appreciation certificates among the winners of the competitions held in Essay, Speech, Quiz, and Painting events.

Various stalls were erected across the college campus wherein the students displayed an impressive array of prototypes and items meticulously prepared by the students, demonstrating their technical skills, ingenuity, and entrepreneurial potential. The Chief Guest took a keen interest in the projects, interacting with the students and appreciating their hard work and innovation.

Besides other officers Shafquat Ara, Principal, Kashmir Govt. Polytechnic College, Srinagar, Shah Ismail, DSEO, Srinagar and HODs, Faculty & Students from KGP also participated during the Fest.

Srinagar, September 26th, 2025: The campus of Govt. Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar became a vibrant hub of creativity and competitive spirit with the successful commencement and celebration of the two-day "Udyam Yuva Festival." The event, organized under the visionary "Mission Yuva" project of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, aimed to foster entrepreneurship, innovation, and holistic development among the youth.

The festival witnessed an overwhelming and enthusiastic participation from students across the region, who gathered to showcase their talent and zeal. The primary objective of the festival was to provide a dynamic platform for young minds to articulate their ideas, enhance their skills, and prepare for a future driven by enterprise and leadership.

SRINAGAR, 25/09/2025– The Government Women’s Polytechnic College, Srinagar, marked the seventh day of the ongoing Sewa Pakhwada 2025 with great fervour and active participation from a large number of students. The day’s events were strategically designed to empower students with essential skills and knowledge for their professional futures.

The primary focus of the day was a capacity-building session on Entrepreneurship Awareness, aimed at igniting an innovative and self-reliant spirit among the students. The session provided valuable insights into the fundamentals of starting and managing a successful enterprise.

A significant highlight of the programme was a dedicated session on the India Skills Competition 2025. The objective was to inculcate awareness among the students about this prestigious national event and encourage their participation. Shri Syed Tabassum Geelani, Subject Expert and OSD to J&K Skill Development Mission Srinagar, delivered an insightful awareness lecture. He elaborated on the significance of the competition, the various skill categories, and the detailed process for registration, motivating students to showcase their technical prowess on a national platform.

In a promising development for student placements, a session was conducted by the office bearers of Radha Swami Sanghatan, a non-profit organization. The Chief Operating Officer of the organization addressed the gathering and affirmed their commitment to fostering industry-academia collaboration. Day 3 of Sewa Pakhwada: Skill Development & Cleanliness Drive at Govt Women's Polytechnic College, Srinagar

Srinagar, September 19, 2025 – The third day of ‘Sewa Pakhwada’ at Government Women’s Polytechnic College, Srinagar, was marked by a powerful blend of skill-building and community service, reflecting the institution’s commitment to holistic development.

The day featured a Special Orientation Programme on Soft Skills and Entrepreneurship, aimed at preparing students for professional success beyond the classroom. Expert faculty delivered sessions on essential workplace skills such as effective communication, teamwork, leadership, and business fundamentals.
