In the sweltering heat of Tamil Nadu, these mansions manage to stay remarkably cool. For architecture students and sustainability advocates, this is a prime case study in Vernacular Climate Responsiveness.

How did they achieve thermal comfort?
1️⃣ Stack Effect: The open-to-sky courtyards (Muttram) act as thermal regulators, pushing hot air out and pulling cool breezes in.
2️⃣ Thermal Mass: Thick brick walls coated with specialized lime plaster provide a high thermal mass, creating a time lag for heat transfer.
