Shortage of
staff in many schools in this
north Kashmir’s Tangmarg area is
taking its toll on the education of
hundreds of students in the
region.
Residents of Tangmarg said, in
absence of adequate teaching
staff in the schools, the
education of students was
suffering considerably.
They said the existing teaching
staff present in these schools
was overburdened and they are
not able to do justice with the
students.
According to locals, two high
schools in the area face acute
teaching staff shortage, making
around five hundred students
suffer.
“Government High School Kunzar
is run by only five staff members.
In this school, the roll of class
10th is more than ninety and
admission in 9th class has
crossed hundred,” they said.
“The school is accommodated in
a middle school compound at the
bank of Nallah Ferozpora and
does not have a playground,”
locals added. “Government must
without any delay provide
adequate staff and infrastructure
to the schools in the region so
that the students can be
imparted quality education,” said
a parent from Kunzer.
Another affected high school is
Government Boys High School Pati
Heer in Tangmarg.
The school with over two hundred
and fifty students (from classes
6th to 10th) has only six
teachers.
The primary school of the village
has also been shifted into
premises of the high school, thus
adding to the woes of students.
“We suffer because our school is
under staffed. Two months of our
academic session have already
passed. Government should think
about our future,” a group of
students from Pati Heer said.
Pertinently, a large number of
government schools in rural areas
of the State are under staffed
due to which education of
thousands of students studying in
the schools is affected.
People opine that there must be
good number of teachers posted
in the schools to ensure smooth
functioning of the educational
institutions.
Sub District Magisterate (SDM)
Tangmarg Abdul Qayoom has assured for
‘rationalization’ of staff in the
schools.
Chief Education Officer (CEO)
Baramulla Abdul Ahad Ganaie
said that he will look into the
matter.
“We will not let students suffer. I
will look into it,” CEO Baramulla
said.
