This special day serves as a powerful reminder of his tireless crusade for social justice and his visionary role in shaping the democratic fabric of our nation. The Geodesy project, supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), is a strategic initiative centered at the National Centre for Geodesy (NCG), IIT Kanpur. The project operates through a collaborative network of six regional centers: IIST, IITB, MANIT, MNNIT, IIT ISM, and Anna University. Its primary objective is to establish a robust national platform for capacity building, culminating in the development of a unique, indigenous Geoid model. By providing a localized reference framework, the project ensures that all geospatial developments in India are natively referenced and seamlessly integrated into the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF)

Randomness plays a central role in modern computing โ€” especially in todayโ€™s AI systems. Many artificial intelligence / machine learning algorithms, probabilistic reasoning, and many other core technologies rely on sampling: they repeatedly generate random examples according to carefully designed probabilities.But this raises an important question: How do we know these sampling programs are actually working correctly?If a program is supposed to produce results according to specific probabilities, even small errors can lead to misleading conclusions or unreliable systems. Surprisingly, testing whether a โ€œrandomโ€ program is correct is much harder than it sounds. Traditional methods require collecting huge numbers of samples, which quickly becomes impractical.In this talk, the speaker will present a new way to test sampling algorithms more efficiently. Instead of only asking for random outputs, we allow ourselves to ask more targeted questions, such as requesting a random output restricted to a particular subset of possibilities. This additional flexibility dramatically reduces the number of samples needed, making testing feasible even for large and complex systems.Beyond the technical results, the talk will highlight real-world challenges โ€” especially those arising in AI and probabilistic verification.

Sourav Chakraborty is a Professor in the Advanced Computing and Microelectronics Unit (ACMU) within the Computer and Communication Sciences Division (CCSD) at the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata, India. He previously served as a faculty member at Chennai Mathematical Institute, India. He has also held postdoctoral positions in the Algorithms and Complexity group at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and in the Computer ScienceDepartment at Technion, Israel. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Chicago in 2005.

The study reports the synthesis of nitrogen-doped Nbโ‚‚C quantum dots and demonstrates their application as a fluorescent sensor for both visual and quantitative detection of tetracycline antibiotics.'

Holographic modal wavefront sensing (HMWS) works on the basis of relative on-axis intensity difference measurement obtained by deliberately adding positive and negative amount (bias, b) of a particular mode of the orthonormal polynomial basis used for wavefront representation. Performance of HMWS require optimum values of bias, diameter of aperture placed in front of detector and position of the focal spot on the detector. In this work, we propose a novel quality metric parameter (QMP) defined using a spatial intensity distribution matrix for an improved HMWS that can overcome these limitations associated with the conventional HMWS. Proof-of-concept simulation and experimental results are included in support of our research findings.
