Students of IIITMK are worried about the future of our prestigious institute due to sudden discomfort caused by the news in the media for takeover of IIITMK by newly formed KTU (Kerala Technological University) because students connect to IIITMK as an integral part of their life, who consider it not just merely an institute but an identity they are known by.
Many take pride in being a part of such a respectable institute and by changing its name or by dissolving the institute's autonomous identity, an institute which is of national importance numerous identities of such students and the alumni who are still in the path of building their careers, will get blurred. By this decision not only our feelings with this institute will be affected but also while switching to new jobs or applying for higher education we will face hard time in background verification process, which in turn would lead to complexities and confusion at every stage of our career.
We are really really thankful to this institute for shaping our career and nurturing our foundation and values. This institute has the foresightedness to keep students in pace with time by its careful design & choice of course curriculum, extra curricular activities, workshops, conferences and its research & development. This is not just merely a college but a place where we have seen the real meaning of education, where we have not just completed the course but have understood the depth of technology and learnt the real meaning of education, This is the place where we were inspired to start experimenting on technology rather than just learning theoretically.
IIITMK is providing some of the unique courses as electives apart from traditional electives to its students like Intelligent Transport System, Geographic Information System, Bioinformatics, Computational Chemistry, Information Security, Principles of Programming where student has the full freedom to choose his electives after auditing the courses and choose his/her career path. And once the institute comes under university it will not be so flexible to provide these type of courses. And moreover apart from functioning as a college it has so many successful projects [http://www.iiitmk.ac.in/academics/school-of-cs-a-it/projects] in its name so while studying itself students are privileged to work on the live industry standard projects and this makes a huge difference for a student who is studying in IIITMK compared to other college/university student as they will learn not only coding but also how to work as team and collaborate. Other big plus of IIITMK is its location in the heart of Technopark as the institute is surrounded by IT companies which is again in the interest of students for their internships, placements and interaction with industry leaders. Every week IIITMK organises its GTK [Get to Know] seminar series where it invites professionals, scientists, researchers, social activists for seminar which covers a wide variety of topics from which students will be benefited in their career progression. There is a lot I can discuss which makes it different from other institutes so please protect this institute.
IIITMK has highly skilled and internationally recognized faculties who have been the reason for inspiration and immense motivation among the students that we are not just a part of IT companies, carrying on with our jobs only but also many of us are involved into promoting the real education to the needy people in the society across India, all because of IIITMK. Now, I can proudly say the culture and values given to us by this institute has given us a practical meaning which we are applying in our daily life. IIITMK has accomplished a huge success in last 15 years not only because of its the quality and high standards of education but also the level of support and facilities it is providing to its students round the clock due to its independent way of functioning, which any other institute will not be able to provide. And this support from the institute has brought the real motivation among the students. Please do not destroy 15 years of IIITM-K's achievements in the field of education, technology and scientific research.
If there is a need of change which cannot be avoided please bring a positive one by upgrading IIITMK and not simply by destroying its identity, so that it is able to provide degrees to the students under its renowned name. This is an institute of national importance because of its contribution in the education and research, instead of opening new IIITs please upgrade this institute by seeing its excellent track record of last 15 years, as it is having the all the assets which needs to build a great institute like faculty, quality of education and research, industry projects, state of the art labs. In case if KTU (Kerala Technical University) has to takeover IIITMK in that case also please maintain its name and liabilities towards it. Kindly consider our request and accommodate our career security and sentiments attached to the name and feeling of belonging to our prestigious institute, in your decision.
