May Day, celebrated across the world as International Workers’ Day, symbolizes the dignity of labour, workers’ rights, and the invaluable contribution of employees toward social and institutional progress. Highlighting this significance, the May Day Celebrations – 2026 were held with great enthusiasm at the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli on 01 May 2026 at 4:00 PM. The event was organized to appreciate and recognize the tireless contributions of employees toward the growth and excellence of the institute.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Dr. S. A. Senthil Kumar, Registrar, who greeted the dignitaries and participants, and emphasized the importance of recognizing the invaluable service rendered by employees.
The programme was graced by the Chief Guest, Dr. G. Aghila, Director, National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, who inaugurated the celebrations and delivered the keynote address. In her speech, she emphasized that the hard work and dedication of employees form the backbone of institutional progress. She highlighted that dignity of labour, unity, commitment, and teamwork are the key pillars for achieving sustained excellence.
The event was attended by distinguished dignitaries including Dr. S. T. Ramesh, Dean (Academic); Dr. R. Jeyapaul, Dean (Faculty Welfare); Dr. G. Uma, Dean (Institutional Development & Alumni Relations); Dr. K. Thirumaran, Dean (Planning and Development); Dr. M. Premalatha, Dean (Research and Consultancy); Dr. V. Arul Mozhi Selvan, Chairman, Safety and Security Advisory Committee; and Dr. S. Moorthi, Chief of Works, Estate Maintenance Department, along with other senior administrative officials.
During the occasion, the Director and Deans offered important guidance to employees for improving their quality of life, work efficiency, and professional discipline. Employees were advised to carry out their responsibilities with enthusiasm and complete dedication, maintain the habit of completing daily tasks without delay, and avoid laziness by working with punctuality, discipline, and a strong sense of responsibility. They also emphasized the importance of remaining fully focused and engaged during working hours while ensuring adequate rest at appropriate times for maintaining good health. Furthermore, employees were encouraged to strengthen teamwork, mutual cooperation, and respect for their profession, and to work with complete commitment for the continuous growth and development of the organization.
Around 500 employees actively participated in the celebrations, making the event a meaningful occasion to honor the workforce that plays a vital role in the smooth functioning and development of the institute.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. S. Moorthi, Chief of Works, Estate Maintenance Department, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, dignitaries, organizers, and all participants for making the event a grand success.
