A humble appeal to our proud alumni and patrons.
Vaikunta Baliga College of Law, Udupi formerly known as Udupi Law College is an age old name in the sphere of legal education and this is evidenced by its proud alumni, who have adorned various coveted posts in the Bench, Bar and elsewhere. This lends assurance and credibility to the reputation that it has earned over a period of time from its humble beginning. Today, there is an apprehension of the college slipping into a thing of the past, unable to contend itself with its pristine glory, primarily due to the mushroomed growth of colleges in the domain of legal education.
The uphill task ahead is to face the challenges generated by the onslaught of National Law Schools which are now big name in the sphere of legal education. It has become inevitable to organize academic activities like moot court competitions, client counseling and judgment writing competitions incidental to legal education on a regular basis.
Hence to fall in line with these established academic traditions it is imperative to organize National Moot Court competition every year inviting students from the length and breadth of the country which will go a long way in manifesting our concern for quality legal education.
The only bottle neck in our way is paucity of funds. It requires a minimum of Rs.3,00,000/- annually, to organize a National Moot Court competition accordingly it is proposed to create a corpus fund of Rs.30,00,000/- so that the yearly interest accrued from it could be utilized for the above said purpose.
Our benign management has agreed to give 10 lakhs to create the said corpus fund.
In the light of the matter placed on record before you, it is a humble appeal to all of our proud alumni and patrons to contribute generously for the noble cause. We encourage batches of students to contribute to as a batch as a whole. We also suggest that prizes be established in memory of your near and dear ones.
Contributions are solicited in the following manner:
1. Best team prize (will be named after the benefactor or as per their request) - Rs. 1,00,000/- interest of Rs.10,000 will be payable to the winner of the moot court completion.
2. Best Memorial Prize (will be named after the benefactor or as per their request) - Rs. 50,000/- interest of Rs.5,000 will be payable team with the best memorial.
3. Best Speaker Prize (will be named after the benefactor or as per their request) - Rs. 50,000/- interest of Rs.5,000 will be payable to the best speaker.
4. Runners up Prize (will be named after the benefactor or as per their request) - Rs. 50,000/- interest of Rs.5,000 will be payable to the runners of the moot court completion.
5. Three Memorial Prizes are also sought to be offered to teams from small towns as participatory prizes- (will be named after the benefactor or as per their request) - Rs. 30,000/- interest of Rs.3,000 will be payable to the three teams.
6. Any other contributions made may be in amounts in excess of Rs. 1,000
