The Chania Film Festival is in full swing, and THE GUARDIAN OF STORIES, co-directed by our member Markus Steiner Ender and edited by our member Cornelia Schöpf, is part of the Official Selection!

The festival’s 14th edition takes place on the island of Crete from October 21 to November 1, with a program full of important cultural and educational events. The film is part of the festival’s online catalogue, where it is also being used as educational material. A wonderful way to see stories shared and put to good use.

Another one of our own hits the big screen in Italian cinemas, and that's always a reason to celebrate!

We’re thrilled to announce the theatrical release in Italy of ELON MUSK UNVEILED – The Tesla Experiment, directed by our member Andreas Pichler.

The film opens in cinemas across Italy on October 28, and Andreas will be there in person for a series of previews and screenings:

28 October – Bologna, Galliera – 9:00 PM

Showcasing EKLIPSE, co-produced by our members at Albolina Film GmbH , is another great pleasure this month! The film premiered at the La Biennale di Venezia this September in the Orizzonti section and soon afterwards celebrated its North American Premiere in Toronto at TIFF . Meanwhile, its festival run continues:

Last week, EKLIPSE celebrated its Asian Premiere in Busan at 부산국제영화제 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) . On October 23, it will be presented in Rome at Alice nella città , the Italian festival dedicated to new generations and new voices, and to the perspectives that are changing the present.

And at the end of this month, EKLIPSE will celebrate its Austrian Premiere in Vienna at the Viennale .

TIAN – Generation Farmfluencer is on a roll!
Produced by our members at Takt Film , the documentary TIAN – Generation Farmfluencer is having a great month. After screening at the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival last week, it took home the “Best Film Stories of the Alps” Award. The film is now travelling on to venues across Austria and Germany. Congratulations to the whole team!

At its heart, the film explores the values and mindset of a new generation of alpine farmers – those who choose to continue, cultivate, and reimagine their connection to the land. It’s an honest, visually-driven reflection on our relationship with the earth in a time of deep crisis and transformation.

Showcase is back! 🐑
After a little break, we’re picking up our Showcase rubric with a video project from the design field.

Our member Georg Zeller and his Safari Film produced 5 short documentaries for the CARE x WOOL project, handling also camera and editing. The video series “Care x Wools” explores ways of staying with coarse wool as a material, a living relationship, and a local practice, and part of a living relationship between humans, sheep, and landscapes, asking what sheep might teach us about care, cyclical rhythms, interdependence, and multispecies coexistence.

Care x Wools is presented in the exhibition Flock, Fold, Field in the Cinemááá section at NOOF – New Order of Fashion Lab during Dutch Design Week. Cinemááá is a curated selection of films telling stories from across the globe, screened daily throughout the exhibition.

What an intense and inspiring evening to open our DOC DAY edition #4!

Last night, in partnership with Female Views - Bozen/Bolzano , we screened SILVER, the internationally acclaimed feature-length debut by Polish director Natalia Koniarz, followed by a very insightful Q&A. Here are some impressions we’d like to share!

Thank you so much, Natalia, for taking the time to answer all our questions, and thanks to everyone who came to the first film of the DOC DAY 2026/2027 programme for being part of this evening.

DOC DAY is an initiative by the Film Association of South Tyrol, supported by the Autonomous Province of South Tyrol. Curated by Emanuele Vernillo, the programme brings six internationally acclaimed documentaries to the big screen in Bolzano. From October 2026 to March 2027, we show one film a month at the Filmclub Capitol, including a Q&A and other activities, co-hosted or organised with local partners.

Cerro Rico, Potosí, Bolivia. The richest silver mine in history. For five centuries the mine has given back silver and kept bodies: over eight million died there. Silver in exchange for life.

In SILVER the gaze of the filmmakers descends into the darkness of the earth and stays there: we breathe the dust and catch the smell. The cinematography is by Stanisław Cuske, already credited as camera operator on The Zone of Interest.

The editing (Yaël Bitton) moves between two worlds: the depths and the daylight above. Outside, children go to school, play football, run down the ridge of the mountain, while the mine’s blasts echo all around.

The director Natalia Koniarz spent several months living inside the community around Cerro Rico. Her empathy gives us access to one of the most controversial places in the world.

From that silver come mirrors, electronics, cameras, artificial intelligence. The same mountain that lights our screens keeps swallowing those who dig it. Executive producer: the award-winning filmmaker Paweł Pawlikowski.
