🌍 27 February — International NGO Day
Where does the concept of NGOs really come from?
Long before the idea of the “Third Sector” became popular, the United Nations had already recognised the key role of non-governmental organisations in global governance.

📌 A little-known historical fact:
NGOs are explicitly mentioned in the United Nations Charter (1945).

➡️ Article 71 — Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
This article authorises the UN to establish consultative relationships with non-governmental organisations. In other words, since 1945 the UN has recognised that building peace, human rights and sustainable development cannot rely on states alone. The voice of organised civil society is essential.

💡 Why does this matter today?
Because NGOs are not a recent invention or a secondary actor in the international system. They are a recognised pillar of multilateralism, with the capacity to influence global policies, monitor human rights, support communities and fill the gaps where institutions are absent or unwilling to act.

📣 At a time of disinformation, shrinking civic space and increasing pressure on civil society, remembering the historical and political legitimacy of NGOs is more important than ever.

🚨 What is happening in is horrific.
This morning, Social Change School joined in the collective action organized by several civil society organizations to draw a symbolic red line and underline is committed with defense of Human Dignity.

✋ A , like those appearing in many European cities in recent days, to say enough:
❌ Enough of war.
❌ Enough of violations of .
❌ Enough of the destruction of civilian life.

Today, we too draw that red line: a symbolic yet necessary boundary in the face of the atrocities devastating the . In Gaza, all red lines have already been crossed. As citizens and professionals committed to social change, we have a duty to speak out because silence is not an option.
