🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Fabio Benincasa, who has been teaching with Duquesne University in Rome since 2008, for the publication of “La città e il carcere” (EN: The City and The Prison), recently published by Bordeaux Edizioni in the RIF Lezioni series.
Dr. Benincasa teaches Italian Language, Eternal City: Myth of Rome Through the Centuries, Modern Art in Rome, and Italy Through Italian Film, bringing his deep knowledge of Rome, Italian culture, and the arts to generations of students.
📖 La città e il carcere explores the complex relationship between the contemporary city and the prison, considering the prison as a physical and social periphery of the city and raising important questions about space, marginality, citizenship, inclusion, and confinement.
Bringing together perspectives from urban planning, philosophy, sociology, and law, the volume examines how prisons shape — and are shaped by — the urban and social environments around them.
The volume is particularly distinctive in that all of the essays are authored by women scholars, bringing diverse perspectives to the relationship between the city and the prison.
