If you would like to get some knowledge about it, you can visit the web site http://d-memphd.unimi.it/ or attend the virtual open day, on August 3, 3.30 pm. We will present the course, its organization and main activities, and provide guidance on how to apply correctly and prepare yourself for the selection! We will inform you about the research projects available for the new enrollment and respond to any question. ll prezioso incontro dei ricercatori di Biometra con la famiglia della piccola Margherita
La chiamano “terza missione”, il termine con cui i ricercatori sono chiamati a trasferire alla società civile la cultura scientifica e le nuove conoscenze tecnologiche, ma ieri, il 14 giugno 2022, molti ricercatori di Biometra hanno avuto la fortuna di incontrare e discorrere con la famiglia Baruffaldi, e di imparare quanto la società possa donare ai ricercatori. L’occasione dell’incontro era triste e commovente. La loro figlia, Margherita, affetta da sindrome di Rett e di solo 8 anni è mancata quasi un anno fa e per ricordarla hanno raccolto i fondi per regalare al laboratorio di Biologia Molecolare e Cellulare Applicate alle Patologie del Neurosviluppo, da anni in prima linea alla ricerca di una cura per il trattamento della sindrome di Rett, e al Dipartimento un vibratomo, uno strumento che mancava a Biometra e di cui la neurobiologia aveva un gran bisogno. Lo strumento è arrivato già da alcune settimane ma ieri i genitori e i fratelli di Margherita hanno messo una piccola targa in memoria di Margherita. Nel farlo Giuditta e Michela, commossi ma sorridenti, hanno ringraziato i ricercatori “perché la ricerca è la speranza per il futuro, per i figli dei nostri figli”. Ieri, Margherita e la sua famiglia hanno donato ai più giovani ricercatori una rinnovata energia. La strada è difficile e faticosa; fare ricerca non è un lavoro ma uno stile di vita che ti assorbe 24 ore su 24. Le parole sentite ieri e lo scambio tra società civile e scientifica sono un ingrediente fondamentale per non perdere mai l’entusiasmo e non dimenticare il fine ultimo di tanta fatica.

The International PhD Program in Experimental Medicine and the Department of Medical Biotechnology and Translational Medicine have the pleasure and honor of hosting the seminar of "Time to fight Covid with Science (and stop going Medieval)" on Friday 11 February at 5.00 pm held by Prof. Guido Silvestri, an outstanding scientist also known to the general public for being one of the leading experts involved on the front line in the fight against Covid-19. Professor Silvestri will discuss the enormous progress made by science against Covid (vaccines, antivirals, other therapies, pathogenesis, etc.), the advantages and disadvantages of trying to control the virus by forcing the separation between people and finally will focus on the importance of a factual scientific communication and dissemination, which avoids catastrophism and reductionism. The event will then be broadcast on the Zoom platform, with the possibility of interacting with Prof. Silvestri at the end of the seminar, and live video on the Department's page (https://www.facebook.com/biometra.unimi)

The laboratory of Nicoletta Landsberger has 1 open position in the lab at the Univ. of Milan. The project aims at characterizing at the molecular level whether a novel gene might function as a modifier gene for Rett syndrome.
