📣 GC network, alumni and friends in Brussels – we are delighted to invite you to an exclusive screening of the newest film by award-winning documentary filmmaker Askold Kurov, hosted at the UN House in Brussels on Friday 12 June at 17-19h.

The 30-minute documentary, produced in collaboration with the Reconceptualising Exile programme of the Global Campus of Human Rights and Right Livelihood, offers a powerful and deeply personal look into the lives of some fellows from the programme: human rights defenders who have been forced to continue their work from exile. Through their stories, the film explores themes of resilience, displacement, and the ongoing struggle for human rights across borders.

Following the screening, we will host a conversation with Askold Kurov—himself living and working in exile—as well as some of the film’s protagonists. The evening will conclude with a reception with light refreshments, providing an opportunity to continue the discussion and connect with fellow members of the GC community.

What happens when surviving enforced disappearance becomes the spark for a global fight for justice?

In the first episode of this series, Thomas Unger sits down with Ram Bhandari, PhD to explore how Ram’s experience of enforced disappearance in Nepal transformed into a lifelong commitment to human rights activism.

From survivor-led solidarity networks to the growing crisis of impunity and shrinking civic space worldwide, this conversation shines a light on the urgent need for collective, victim-centered pathways to justice — and the work of Inovas in making them possible.

A powerful conversation on resilience, solidarity, and the fight for accountability.

🌍 From research to practice: GC alumna Vitória Viana Assis featured by Share Music

The recent article highlights the work of Vitoria, a graduate from the European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (EMA ), whose research and professional practice focus on the intersection of children’s rights and disability inclusion.

Her commitment to translating research into practice demonstrates how arts and culture can drive social change, particularly for marginalised communities. Through her fellowship, developed in partnership with Right Livelihood, Vitoria is making strides in promoting inclusivity and empowerment for children with disabilities.

Her experience also illustrates the wider role of the Global Campus network in supporting graduates working across research, advocacy and applied human rights practice.

“Expose the financial architecture that sustains oppression.”

In our latest conversation, the Office spoke with Justice for Myanmar, a collective of covert activists working to uncover the global financial and corporate systems sustaining Myanmar’s military junta.

From documenting military-linked conglomerates to tracing international supply chains, their investigative work reveals how economic networks, arms transfers, and corporate investments continue to enable grave human rights violations in the country. Their mission is clear: to dismantle these structures of complicity and contribute to a democratic, federal Myanmar.

Recognised as 2025 Right Livelihood Award laureates, they dedicate this recognition to the people of Myanmar resisting ongoing violence and repression, and call for urgent international action to cut the junta’s financial and military lifelines.

“Governments, companies and investors must act now to end their complicity,” they stress, urging coordinated sanctions, divestment, and accountability for those enabling the military’s crimes.

We are honoured to feature this important interview on the Global Campus platform.

🌍 Reflecting on shared priorities and youth leadership in Venice

On 21–22 May 2026, the Steering Group of the Global Campus of Human Rights – Right Livelihood Child Rights Cooperation met in Venice for two days of exchange on youth leadership, movement building, and future strategic priorities.

A key highlight of the meeting was the participation of young representatives from Nepal (Child Leadership Team and Youth Advisory Group), who shared powerful insights on their experiences as human rights defenders and the realities of youth engagement in social and political change. Their contributions sparked rich discussions on how institutions and international networks can better support youth-led initiatives while respecting autonomy and leadership.

Participants also reflected on global developments related to human rights and climate justice, and explored how long-term cooperation can continue to strengthen solidarity, learning, and collective action across regions. The meeting concluded with a visit to Poveglia island, showcasing grassroots civic engagement and community-led protection of public spaces.

Human rights education in South East Europe has remained closely tied to the region’s democratic and political fault lines.

(ERMA) offers a clear example of this in the 2025 Global Campus Annual Report, marking 25 years of regional human rights education while continuing to connect academic training with democratic reform, regional cooperation and applied practice across South East Europe.

In 2025, ERMA completed a major curriculum revision, introducing new teaching on peace and human rights, AI, disinformation, environmental rights and children’s rights. The report also highlights a growing alumni network, with more than 150 alumni engaged this year in mentoring, academic exchange and professional networking across the region.
