Hiiragi Hosts Community Engagement Roundtable Series 💬

Hiiragi is a student organization selected under Project B, a program that supports student initiatives tackling social issues.

Hiiragi operates the community cafe of the same name in the Kamegawa area with the goal of serving as a local "community consultation hub". Through managing this space and organising events, they work to create opportunities for interaction between local residents and APU students.

The two roundtable sessions were designed to help students learn about engaging with local communities and inspire them to take action. The first session focused on students sharing their experiences and lessons learned through community activities while the second session explored the topic from the perspectives of local residents and government officials.

学生団体「ひいらぎ」が座談会を開催 💬

ひいらぎは、社会課題の解決に取り組む学生の自主的な活動を支援するプログラム「Project B」に採択された学生団体です。

亀川地域で「まちの相談所」の役割を目指す「コミュニティカフェひいらぎ」をオープンし、このスペースの運営やイベント開催を通じて、地域住民と学生が交流できる場づくりに取り組んでいます。

今回開催された2回の座談会は、学生が地域との関わり方を学び、その学びを実践につなげることを目的に企画されました。第1回では、学生たちが地域活動を通じて得た経験や学びを共有し、第2回では、地域住民や行政関係者の視点から、学生と地域との関わり方について意見を交わしました。

YTB Fashion Show 👗

YTB Lab is a student organization selected under Project B, a program that supports student initiatives tackling social issues.

YTB Lab is dedicated to preserving the beauty of traditional costumes from around the world by exploring new possibilities through upcycling. By collecting donations of unwanted fabrics from local residents, including bed sheets, curtains, and tablecloths, they have been able to hold three workshops creating opportunities for the students of APU to experience upcycling for themselves.

Their recent fashion show marks the culmination of approximately nine months of activities. The models performed in sync with the multilingual narrations, creating an immersive atmosphere that celebrated linguistic and cultural diversity.

YTBファッションショー 👗

YTB ラボは、社会課題の解決に取り組む学生の自主的な活動を支援するプログラム「Project B」に採択された学生団体です。

YTB ラボは、アップサイクルを通じて新たな可能性を探求しながら、世界各地の伝統衣装の美しさを未来へ受け継ぐことを目指しています。地域住民の方々から不要になったベッドシーツやカーテン、テーブルクロスなどの布地を寄付いただき、それらを活用したワークショップをこれまでに3回開催してきました。参加したAPUの学生たちは、実際にアップサイクルを体験する貴重な機会を得ることができました。

今回のファッションショーは、約9か月にわたる活動の集大成として開催されました。モデルたちは多言語によるナレーションに合わせてパフォーマンスを披露し、言語や文化の多様性を称える没入感あふれる空間を創り上げました。

Interviews - Aung Lin Htin

“I want to see the world beyond Myanmar.”
That aspiration led Aung Lin Htin to Japan, and eventually to APU.

Aung Lin Htin, a member of APU's very first cohort in 2000, has dedicated his life to creating opportunities for young people in Myanmar to learn, grow, and build their futures. Following his graduation from APU, he has spent his career empowering the youth of Myanmar and has built businesses across tourism, education and hospitality.

More than two decades later, Aung continues to build bridges between Japan and Myanmar through education, skill development and creating opportunities.

Faculty Achievement 🌟

Associate Professor Emilia S. HEO of the College of Asia Pacific Studies (APS) has been awarded the Distinguished Excellence in Teaching International Studies Prize in June 2026 by the British International Studies Association (BISA).

She received the award for transforming the way students learn international relations. Through activities such as visual arts, music, literature, and creative performance, she creates opportunities for students to become active participants rather than mere observers.

🚀宇宙教室「CanSat」をAPUで開催🛰️

8月1日・2日、APUで宇宙教室「CanSat」を開催し、大分県内の中学生25名とAPU生5名が参加しました。

立命館大学の中須賀真一教授を講師に迎え、参加者は空き缶サイズの模擬人工衛星「CanSat」の製作に挑戦し、最終日には高さ9mからの投下コンテストを実施。歴代最高得点も誕生し、会場は大いに盛り上がりました！
宇宙への夢とものづくりの楽しさが詰まった、熱い2日間となりました。🚀

🚀 APU Hosts CanSat Space Workshop! 🛰️
On August 1–2, APU hosted the CanSat Space Workshop, welcoming 25 junior high school students from Oita Prefecture and five APU students.

Led by Professor Shinichi Nakasuka of Ritsumeikan University, participants built their own can-sized model satellites, known as CanSats, and put them to the test in a 9-meter drop challenge on the final day. The event even produced the highest score ever recorded in the workshop's history, creating an exciting atmosphere for everyone involved!
It was an inspiring two days filled with the excitement of space exploration, teamwork, and hands-on engineering. 🚀
